Anyone buy DCs things after Xmas?

This has happened to me a few times. During/After Christmas I've realised that a toy or set or game could go with an extra figure or component to really make it work and (shamefully) have bought a few bits after Christmas!!!
Considering buying a baby yoda plushie but they're a bit too expensive and not so much an add-on but a substantial gift in itself. Not too much vitriol, anything veering towards a solution, esp if has been tried and tested, would be great! Birthday is in 5 months, by which time Mandalorian's moment might have passed.

How much does DC want it? Can you afford it? If they had money for Christmas then can you go halves?

rottiemum88 · 28/12/2020 11:41

I'm not sure I understand the problem, why would gifts need to be restricted to Christmas and birthdays? DSs birthday is in January, so by that token he'd only ever have new toys for one month of the year, whereas his interests change much more quickly than that, particularly while he's so young. I don't see why there should be a limit, so long as you can comfortably afford it.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 28/12/2020 12:56

Don't see the problem tbh. Im thinking of getting a few more Brio bits for my 3 year old. Im really pleased with the quality of the we got him and I've seen a few accessories I think would be good.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/12/2020 12:57

Yes, we have always bought outside of birthdays and Christmas. I loved the earlier years of the ever changing fads.

I don’t know any adult who only gets non essentials twice a year so see no reason for it to apply to children either.

Emeraldshamrock · 28/12/2020 12:59

Mine usually have some Christmas money, they're creating their list now to send dad shopping for toys. Grin

LittleBearPad · 28/12/2020 13:00

Not quite sure why it’s needed but if you want to buy it, buy it. It’s really not a hard question

Stompythedinosaur · 28/12/2020 13:02

No judgement here! If you can afford it and it would give you pleasure to give, then why not?

We have a tradition of doing a treasure hunt on new years day and I normally hold back a gift for then.

HintOfVintagePink · 28/12/2020 13:04

Yes, but only using any Christmas money they may have had. DD was given a doll and wanted a pushchair for it. We found one on Gumtree and she spent some Christmas money. It’s made her a lot more enthusiastic about walks! Not sure I’d be spending more of my own money though.

Ponoka7 · 28/12/2020 13:05

I used to go shopping on boxing day, in the late 80's/early 90's. Anything I bought was a New Year present. My DH was still off work so we'd have another dinner. It was nice because there were no relatives involved, just us.

MistletoeandGin · 28/12/2020 13:05

I ordered a couple of bits in the sales this morning. They’ve had lots of lovely gifts for Christmas but if I see something they’ll like at a good price I tend to buy it. We’ll need it to get through the next few months of winter lockdown anyway.

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 28/12/2020 13:05

I’m not strict about only having new things at Christmas and birthday, but no, I won’t be buying mine anything new now.

If they’ve been gifted money and choose to buy something that’s different but I personally think that buying yet more toys a few days after they’ve had lots of new stuff sends the wrong message. I’d rather mine be grateful for what they’ve just been given and enjoy it before they think about getting more and more.

byebyeboyee · 28/12/2020 13:24

Yes but we celebrate Kings day in January so it's sort of expected

Rosebel · 28/12/2020 13:32

I do buy things aside from birthdays /Christmas but not a lot and not less than a week after Christmas.
We have a big family though so they get more than enough at Christmas.
However if you can afford to and want to, why not

alex1889 · 28/12/2020 13:35

What Confused You only buy toys for Christmas and birthdays? What about the other 10 months of the year?

DD1 born in December so she has a double dose of presents but I don't go crazy so I can spread toys out throughout the year.

But to answer your question, yes I buy things after Christmas. Just bought DDs new toys from Argos that arrived the morning! Although we are self-isolating due to Covid so I have to keep them entertained and that's my justification for it.

Folicky · 28/12/2020 17:31

Thanks everyone yes some gifts throughout the year although fewer as DC get older .... although sometimes it's invisible shit (vbucks etc). Just finding the balance and lockdown comes into the mix also

I've just bought the pizza and detective game for osmo not a christmas present but he will get a lot of use out of it. Especially if schools are slow to go back
