To ask your skincare routine / steps?

So I'm 23 years old - used to have a really great little skincare routine but sadly let it slip! I've moved house and packed up all of my skincare bits in a 'safe place' and literally can't find any of it - so any skincare routine I did have has completely gone out of the window! 😅

I have combination skin.

The only skin concerns that I have is occasional patches of dry skin, around my nose and chin which makes my makeup look quite cakey even though I really don't use much!

Any ideas? Any products you swear by?

Also, a step by step process would be amazing!

I recently changed to an oil cleanse and love it! Have similar skin to yours and am 27.

@bravotango oh amazing! Do you recommend a particular product at all? 😁

Porb needs to move to Style and Beauty

I double cleanse first using oil then a cream cleanser. There is an own brand one in a green tube from Superdrug hot cloth cleanser and it doesn't make my skin dry like others do.

Start on an anti ageing eye cream, l did when l was 24 and no one believes my age. Nothing too harsh though!

Always take your makeup off

Face mask once a week, anything that adds moisture. Boots do some lovely own brand sheet masks £1.50 each.

No. 7 and Mark's own are really nice night moisturisers.

I was using The Ordinary one (which was great) and when that ran out I bought the Kiehl's midnight cleansing oil. Also great, but more expensive. Agree with pp about always taking make up off and also SPF in the morning!

Thank you both!

I am 30 with combo skin - oily forehead and nose, but with dry patches on my nose and chin. I use The Ordinary's Glycolic Toner, Squalane Cleanser, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Copper Buffet drops, and honestly, it has been a game changer. I started using them in April and my skin has never looked so good, especially with the Niacinamide. It really helps with any oiliness and redness I have and I can tell when I've not used it.

In the morning I use the squalane, glycolic and hyaluronic, and in the evening I double cleanse with a cheap micellar water to get rid of any obvious dirt/make up and use the squalane to clean up, apply the hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and then the copper drops. Everything I've listed other than the copper drops are like £5-10ish, and the copper drops are like £20+. Definitely worth it though!

Only thing to be aware of if you're using acids like this, is to use a factor 50/50+ full spectrum facial sunscreen. I can recommend La Roche Posay Shaka Fluid for oily skin! Doesn't break me out or give off a white caste on the skin. Hope that helped a bit.

Hi OP! Took a picture of my evening routine in some sort of order - mask is twice a week. I have combination skin and I'm 31... so you could skip things like facial oil. I am only loyal to the Emma Hardy cleansing balm - the other products I swap and switch (eg, eye cream can be any hydrating eye cream). You're at a really good age for preventative skin care :)

I used to wash with soap and water, use toner and then moisturiser. Now I wash with soap in the morning, serum if I can remember and then nousteruse. At night it's just a wipe. Can't tell any difference. I'm 58 and just cannot be bothered. I do have good skin, courtesy of my mother's genes.

I wash my face with water in the morning and cleanse with an oil cleanser (if I’ve been wearing sunscreen/makeup) and then a Dove Sensitive bar at night.

For dry patches I swear by hyaluronic acid lotions. I mostly use Hada Labo lotions and The Ordinary’s one, but there’s tons of good affordable options.

Hyaluronic acid works best on moist skin, so I usually apply one layer as soon as I get out of the shower/wash my face, let it soak in for a minute then spritz my face with water, apply another layer and then another spritz. Depending on how dry my skin is I might do that a couple more times. Most hyaluronic acid lotions are very watery so you can layer without it feeling like it. Then I apply a thicker moisturiser to lock in that moisture. In the day I use something light, like Neutrogena Hydroboost, and at night something richer (I like Asian beauty sleeping packs and La Roche Posay Cicaplast). Going one step further and dotting a little Vaseline over the dry spots at night really helps too, but if you’re a side sleeper that can get messy.

A chemical exfoliant will also help with dry flakies. If you don’t have any other skin issues like discolouration then something gentle will be enough. The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid 5% is good, or lots of people love Pixi Glow Tonic. Use it 2-3 times a week before moisturising, and wait at least 15 minutes before moving on to the next step.

Wash once a day with sulphur soap (allegedly helps with rosacea). That's it.

Simplicity is bliss.

Morning I do a single cleanse with an oil cleanser, then I use toner, then one or two serums depending on how my skin looks and then moisturiser and then SPF.

Evening I do a double cleanse with an oil cleanser then a cream cleanser. Tone and then 3 times a week I use an exfoliating scrub and then a mask. Then 1 or 2 serums and then night moisturiser.

Products will depend on your skin, use had to experiment to find what works for me. I have a mixture of brands. Dr oetker, burns bees, Holland and barret CBD range, Holland and Barrett serums. They're the main brands I can think of off the top of my head

CorianderQueen · 28/12/2020 01:05

Morning - balm cleanser, vit c serum, moisturiser, SPF.

Evening - balm cleanser, glycolic acid toner, hyaluronic spray, retinol eye cream, vitamin c oil and then either hyaluronic serum and moisturiser or retinol sleeping mask.

I'm 25. Mostly dry skin, an acid toner will help with that.

Madre1972 · 28/12/2020 08:57

I am not far off of 50yrs old, I’ve cleaned my skin for the past 35+ years with baby lotion and never suffered with spots and am regularly told I look mid-late 30’s. It’s cheap, readily available and good enough for babies :)
