Putting the empty wrappers back in the After Eight Mint box

I say it’s wrong and should never happen. DH disagrees and is upset I just made him take them all out of the box and put them in the bin.

@FAQs

It’s only accepted for after eights, none of this celebrations or cereal stuff, different entities entirely.
Agreed, It creates a feeling of suspense with after eights, doesn't work for anything else!
Leeds2 · 27/12/2020 19:42

Doesn't bother me either way as I don't like After Eights! But, if I did, then hanging would be too good for the offenders.
I have known people put the wrappers back in Roses/Quality Street etc boxes, but it doesn't annoy me quite as much as I think it is obvious that they are wrappers so I don't think they are available to eat, iyswim.

MeMarmiteYouJam · 27/12/2020 19:43

I feel like I need to draw a line under all empty-food-packets-and-wrappings behaviour, or where will it end?

mogtheexcellent · 27/12/2020 19:45

I do this.

I feel I ought to point out I am the only person who eats them in this house. I would not do it at my parents because they put them on a plate

OppsUpsSide · 27/12/2020 19:46

It’s the one thing that makes eating an After Eight Mint worthwhile

Rosebuddydo · 27/12/2020 19:46

I have a box to myself and even I remove them as to not disappoint myself!

LeSangeEstDansLarbre · 27/12/2020 19:46

@CreamFirstThenJamOnTop

Well, I don’t so much put them back in as leave the wrapper in the box. We all just lift the actual after eight out, leaving the wrapper where it is.
This.

it's wrong to actually put the wrappers back in, but totally fine to simply remove the chocolate leaving the envelope behind.

As for other tubs of sweeties we hurl the screwed up wrappers into the kindling basket, or thereabouts....you always know your housekeeping is not up to snuff when you sweep a BigPurple wrapper out from behind the fire in April. 3) :o

nachthexe · 27/12/2020 19:52

Wrappers stay in the box.

An after eight box has to remain full and you have to riffle for the goodies. What sort of heathen leaves the poor wafers to fall over and rattle about? 😳

Nothing else though. It’s also the law that the only thing left in the quality street tin is the blue ghastlies. They deserve to rattle around on their own until someone forces themselves in desperation to chaw through the grit.

JoanWilderbeast · 27/12/2020 19:58

I voted YANBU but the added thrill of unexpectedly finding one maybe makes up for it ;)

PandemicPavolova · 27/12/2020 20:01

The absolute joy of the after eights box is thinking its empty and then discovering one or two or more, rustling in the empty wrappers

HeronLanyon · 27/12/2020 20:01

Just this year for the first time ever this has become a big thing for me. Abhorrent behaviour. Kind of ‘dirty’ but worse still the innocent ‘after eight désirer’ will be lead astray and have hopes then dashed !

Ontheboardwalk · 27/12/2020 20:05

I did this to my own box and totally pissed myself off scrabbling around when I realised there were none left

RickJames · 27/12/2020 20:08

After Eight are revolting. I voted YANBU though because not throwing empty wrappers away would irritate me.

RickJames · 27/12/2020 20:10

Btw, did anyone else's Granny have the fancy silver metal stand to display their After Eights? Grin

Gingernaut · 27/12/2020 20:15

@BestOfABadLot

But isn't part of the joy of having after eights the slight uncertainty as to whether there are actually any chocolate lefts or just empty wrappers? As a child I was convinced if you looked hard enough there would always be one chocolate left.
No!

WTF??

Either the chocolate is obviously in there or it isn't.

Minty chocolate isn't Schrödinger's bloody cat!

CrazyDuchess · 27/12/2020 20:22

I'm with your DH and the other sensible posters... it adds to the thrill Grin

Time40 · 27/12/2020 20:37

I thought you were supposed to leave the wrappers in the box. If you don't, you can't go fossicking in them for the last mint - and that's the whole point of After Eights, isn't it?

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 27/12/2020 20:57

It's better than finding the wrappers stuffed down the side of the sofa where DP has decided not to bother with the bin either. [sigh]

soughsigh · 27/12/2020 21:17

Genuinely, why do people do this? My mother is terrible for it. If my DH did it, it would be genuine divorce territory.
