Matching Christmas pjs for all the family

Inspired by the other thread about this I just wonder if I’m the only person who thinks that it’s really a bit wasteful and environmentally unfriendly to buy new Christmas-themed pjs for all the family every year?
By this I mean the pjs that are specifically Christmas themed (and therefore unlikely to be worn the rest of the year) and the parents must be included! (I don’t just mean regular new pjs for Christmas which is of course fine!)
(And btw good for you if you buy them and wear them all year round 😀)
Am I the only one who feels this way?

I wear my Xmas jamas all year, they are just jamas I don’t go to the shops in them! No one sees!

MarshmallowsOnToast · 27/12/2020 11:01

Who says you have to buy them new each year?

DP & I had matching ones last year. Now we have a baby, I found a pair on eBay for him to match for this Christmas. I'm already looking on eBay for a bigger pair for him in the same pattern for next year too.

Santaisreel · 27/12/2020 11:05

We wear them all year round. Not matching with each other but they go in the pyjama drawer along with all the other pyjamas. Are people only wearing them once?

Abraxan · 27/12/2020 11:10

A lot of people just wear them all year round, especially the children, ime. Many don't have specific 'Christmas' ones, though may have a more winters theme/feel to them.

A few adults have specific Christmas ones which get out away each year and brought out again each year, rather than buying new year in year.

Tbh I don't know anyone who buys Christmas PJs, only wears them for a week in December, and then throws them away.

IrishGirl2020 · 27/12/2020 11:16

So glad to hear people wear them the rest of the year 😀
I feel much happier about them now.

I always buy matching pjs for my DC on Christmas Eve but they’re never Christmassy so they’re worn all year. Tbf I’d make them wear Christmas ones all year too if I bought those.

Whattheao · 27/12/2020 11:19

Consumerist bollocks. It's all for social media surely?? I guess if they're all matching then the kids will outgrow them during the year so everyone will need new ones every Xmas. Not my money though!!

santasmincepie · 27/12/2020 11:23

I deliberately got non christmassy ones for this reason. They're red and white with bears on them.

I personally wouldn't and I think it's bit naff. However it doesn't bother me if others do it. I also think families just enjoy doing it - not just for social media! I enjoy seeing happy families on my Facebook feed as well.

Santaisreel · 27/12/2020 11:33

It's all for social media surely??

No, it's not.

Some people live their lives through SM, this will include the annual Christmas pyjama pictures. Other people don't post their pyjamas on SM at all.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 27/12/2020 11:36

Matching pjs for whole families is just to show off in Facebook and the look like total wankers.

I never considered wearing clothes to match my partner, or my children when they were young, would be a good idea, and would probably have been a bit embarrassed to find I'd done it, even accidentally. I would also never have considered sharing photos of me in my pyjamas with family and friends. Christ knows why people think it's something to show off nowadays.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/12/2020 11:36

The whole thing makes me shudder, personally, but each to their own. I have friends who do this and it gives them a great deal of pleasure.

LubaLuca · 27/12/2020 11:40

Most people are sensible with money and belongings. I don't believe there are many who'd wear Xmas pyjamas for a night, bin them, then buy more in a year's time. Give the general public a bit more credit, op.

IrishGirl2020 · 27/12/2020 11:47

@LubaLuca
I appreciate your point but it’s pretty common to lose the plot a bit when it comes to spending money at Christmas so you just never know. But it does seem that people on here (at least those who replied!) will expect to get a decent amount of wear from their Christmas pjs and it’s not just for that one photo on social media

It's naff as hell but hadn't thought about it being wasteful. Interesting point OP.

AdventureCode · 27/12/2020 11:52

We had them this year, it was their first xmas without their dad so I wanted to start a new tradition that was fun and just for us.
Not on social media, so no posting of cringy photos for us. And yes they'll be wearing them until they outgrow them not just the week of Christmas, and tbh i dont know anyone who would be so wasteful as to not wear them whenever.

misskatamari · 27/12/2020 11:55

i generally get the kids some christmas pjs, but that's because they grow and need new ones by winter, and they wear them all year. Christmas/halloween clothes are year round things in this house. We don't go in for matching sets, and if we ever do all need pjs at the same time, i might, but i wouldn't be replacing the adult ones the next year so we matched again (if that makes sense). So i guess, YANBU IF people buy these things purely for one day, but surely most don't, in which case YABU, if people just buy festive pjs, and wear them all the time, like we do
