To think this is a concerning weight gain?

Weight gain since Christmas eve morning 5.5 pounds.

Living a life of between 1200-1500 calories a day in weeks prior to this, lost 7lb in 2 months.

Christmas Eve Eve ate 1200 cals.

Christmas Eve didn't count but, lunch a 400cak m£S sandwich avd and apple. Evening meal was Chinese takeaway - 1 main course, half a side carb and one prawn toast.

Obviously indulged on Christmas day but not excessively so.

Would you be concerned by this?

Stop being obsessive about your weight. Take it easy on the food for the next few weeks and weigh again mid January. Any celebratory blip will have evened out.

MistletoeandGin · 26/12/2020 13:55

Concerned in what way? What do you think the problem is?
Weight fluctuates all the time. Go back to your normal diet and weigh yourself again in a week or so.

Splodgetastic · 26/12/2020 13:55

Chinese food is very salty. Most likely water retention. Drink lots of water and that will also help you do a big poo. It’s just a blip.

MispyM · 26/12/2020 13:56

No. I wouldn't be. Go on brisk walks (or whatever floats your boat).

Eat lots of vegetables. No alcohol or flavoured / calorific drinks. And it should be OK.

Unless you're managing a medical condition. In which case this is between you and your doctor.

That's at least what I've been doing between Christmas and New Year's for the last few years.

Neolara · 26/12/2020 13:57

Well it's not physically possible to have put on 5.5lb of fat on since Xmas Eve by eating what you ate, so it's almost certainly just water.

KatieGGGG · 26/12/2020 13:58

Water weight from additional carbs/salt weigh yourself in a few days time and you’ll be back to normal.

It’s Xmas fgs enjoy it!

Odile13 · 26/12/2020 14:00

I absolutely would not be concerned. Weight fluctuates naturally from day to day.

midnightstar66 · 26/12/2020 14:03

That's just normal weight fluctuation after an indulgence. It's not permanent or fat gain. Don't weigh yourself more than once a week but leave it a couple after the festive period to be kind to your self.

lostfrequencies · 26/12/2020 14:06

I'm concerned by your thought process, I don't think the weight fluctuation is unusual at all.

Imiss2019 · 26/12/2020 14:09

If you’re going count calories and weigh yourself daily then it’s best to try and understand the process of of loss and gain and what can affect it and how it can fluctuate. Perfectly easy to see such an increase if you’ve eaten particularly salty or carby foods. Most of it will be retained water

NerrSnerr · 26/12/2020 14:12

It'll just be water. You can't put 5.5lbs of fat on in that space of time.

Winter2020 · 26/12/2020 14:16

I think when you are living in dieting mode your glycogen stores are depleted and that means you also carry quite a bit less water that would be in those stores.

A hint of replenishing those stores and you gain water weight that is held in them.

This is also why you can lose “weight” quickly at the start of a diet. Depleting the stores and the water they hold. It’s not really either gaining or losing fat.

Apologies for bad science but I think it’s along those lines.

ElfIsAnAss · 26/12/2020 14:20

I put on 4lbs in 24 hours. It'll be mainly water. Having a turkey curry with veg later....that should help shift it! I'll be back to normal within a few days.

Sparklesocks · 26/12/2020 14:21

It’s not possible to gain 5.5lbs in 2 days, I’m sure you know that deep down. It might be better for your well-being not to weigh yourself every day if it causes you upset, especially over Christmas.

ReallySpicyCurry · 26/12/2020 14:27

It's bloat. You'll be fine once you've had a few days of non Christmas eating. Drinking a bit more water helps me flush it out. I can put on up to 8lbs when I'm on my period

lockitdown · 26/12/2020 14:28

Holy shit
Its boxing day.
Just forget it, dont weight yourself. enjoy the days and then continue as normal.

jgjgjgjgjg · 26/12/2020 14:31

Putting on a lb in weight I believe needs at least 3000 calories. There's absolutely no way you've put on 5.5lb. But you do need to get some help urgently for your disordered thinking around food and weight. I suspect you are well on the way to a full blown eating disorder, unless you have one already of course and are withholding the information.

SimplyRadishing · 26/12/2020 14:32

Half of it is water weight

Sal1977 · 26/12/2020 14:35

I put my money on salt in the Chinese takeaway.

Drink a shed load of water and weigh yourself again in a couple of days.

DishedUp · 26/12/2020 14:35

Its probably water weight or you need a big shit. You have not gained 5.5 pounds of fat

funtimefrank · 26/12/2020 14:40

I once put on 8lb between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day. I spend the first week of jan eating slightly lighter than normal and had lost 9lb by the 7th.

Conversely I once did an 8 week low carb diet. Lost almost 2 stone. Ate a baguette as a treat (a one person one not a big one)but otherwise a sensible day of good food. Gained 3lbs.

Seriously daily weighing is only for people who get it or else it fucks with your head. I need to shift timber but don't intend to weigh myself until February or else I'll just give up.
