Forgot to defrost the food...

Posting for traffic...

Got a bunch of party food from m&s that I forgot to take out of the freezer last night. Supposed to be defrosted before cooking and I'm really hungry.

Should I just bung all it in the oven for an extra 10 minutes? Will I die?

What is it?

Ediemccreedy · 26/12/2020 12:24

Defrost in microwave

Mamamia456 · 26/12/2020 12:24

I wouldn't. Some things do have to be thoroughly defrosted before you can cook them.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 26/12/2020 12:24

Die? No. Potentially be vomiting for 24 hours though.

What is it? If it contains meat it needs to get to a certain temperature and it's less likely to do that from frozen.

ButtWormHole · 26/12/2020 12:25

I would do the extra 10 mins

Lougle · 26/12/2020 12:25

Depends what it is. Pastry/sausages, etc, I would. Anything with a pre-cooked filling will be fine as long as it reaches 75°c in the middle.

We’ve got loads of party food from M&S most of it gives the option to cook from frozen except mozzarella sticks.

LIZS · 26/12/2020 12:26

Not if it contains meat or fish.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 26/12/2020 12:26

What is it? If it was prawns I’d wait but something like a mushroom tart I’d cook a little longer ;or defrost in warm water/microwave).

ShagMeRiggins · 26/12/2020 12:30

Eat something small to tide you over until items are defrosted.

Check instructions—some items will have microwave cooking as well as oven cooking options.

To speed defrosting, empty food onto a warmed metal tray rather than defrosting in fridge or in packet.

JorisBonson · 26/12/2020 12:31

No microwave but just remembered our oven has a defrost setting. I'll eat my bodyweight in crisps while I wait.

It’s fine to cook from frozen if it’s done properly - it basically needs to come right up to temperature.

So put it in on a lower heat than it says (something like 20 degrees less) for 10 to 15 minutes. Test to see if it’s thawed out, once it’s not frozen any longer then put the temp up to the right level and cook as normal.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 26/12/2020 12:31

Do you have a setting on your oven to cook from frozen?
Defrosts the cooks or am I just lucky ?

drinkingwineoutofamug · 26/12/2020 12:32

Sorry op didn't see your post 🙄

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 26/12/2020 12:32

What lovely bits are you going to have? I’m hungry too!

JorisBonson · 26/12/2020 12:37

We have vol au vents and brie tartlets (which I've just seen can be cooked from frozen, woo), lobster Mac & cheese things, prawns and such croquettes. And leftover meat and bubble and squeak.

I'm so hungry.

Oh yummy, it sounds fantastic! This is the first year in quite a few that I haven’t done a selection of canapés for either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day (as we didn’t end up hosting), and I really missed it - the eating of it, that is, not so much the making/assembling of all the fiddly things!😄

Enjoy your Christmas spread!🥂

JorisBonson · 26/12/2020 12:42

Thanks @HollyandIvyandallthingsYule!

Update - I've eaten so much I feel sick and I'm hoping it's gluttony rather than my poor defrosting choices.
