To be more excited for today than I was for Christmas Day?

Don't get me wrong, had a lovely day yesterday with my 7 year old daughter and family BUT I am so so looking forward to today.

Drop my daughter at her dads for their Boxing Day Christmas, I'm going to Sainsbury's to get some nibbles and Prosecco and fresh orange juice. Then heading to my mums to pick up leftovers. Then home, heating on, get a little drunk, eat a shit ton of food and watch Christmas films, starting with 'love actually'.

Feeling a bit guilty that I didn't have this enthusiasm yesterday. AIBU?

Nope! My MIL is leaving today and I’m going to lounge around eating Xmas cake. Dinner will be beans on toast (or left overs) can’t wait!

YANBU. I am looking forward to today much more than yesterday, even though it was perfectly pleasant. I have had scrambled egg and smoked salmon with a glass of fizz all on my own, while the rest of the family sleep. I shall cook a pared back version of christmas dinner, I don't have to entertain anyone else, I can wear my comfy joggers and fleece - quite excited. Have always preferred Boxing Day. You enjoy your day!

You too @BradleyCooperwillbemine Xmas GrinWine

In normal times I look forward to Boxing Day because I can watch the football team I follow and go to a game if they have a home match.

RedHelenB · 26/12/2020 11:36

Yabu to shop on Boxing Day.

RedHelenB · 26/12/2020 11:37

@nosswith. We re watching it as a family on ifollow. Not the same as being there in person but hopefully the result will be in our favour!

ElizaLaLa · 26/12/2020 11:37

Picking up a few things from probably the Tesco extra is hardly 'shopping'.

RealisticSketch · 26/12/2020 11:41

The intoxicating whiff of freedom to please yourself. Enjoy. Grin
It's just a different pleasure isn't it. Yesterday you were being the adult and making everything nice and no doubt enjoying the delight of your daughter etc. Today you get to totally relax. Lovely. Xmas Smile

heyjessieawoo · 26/12/2020 12:39

@RealisticSketch yes, it's a totally different kind of enjoyment! Like you say, total freedom! Xmas Grin

Just spoke on the phone for an hour with my best friend, no children demanding my attention, was lovely.

Hope you all have a lovely day. I'm about a bottle of Prosecco deep now!

Yes. I’m off to the shops. Do not understand this yearly hand wringing and angst about retail workers.

BalconiWaferAddict · 26/12/2020 12:44

Actually came here to say a similar thing - I found yesterday horribly stressful with my 1yo who was totally overwhelmed. Today they’re back to their normal, happy self and has actually enjoyed opening more of their presents and playing with toys. Realising I had too much expectation of the day itself and today is calmer, quieter and altogether a nicer day.

Heartlantern2 · 26/12/2020 12:46

Christmas Day is lovely..but it feels more like it’s for the kids. Boxing Day is for the adults, kids are occupied with toys and adults get drunk and eat junk...perfect!

RolandSchitt · 26/12/2020 12:46

YANBU, I always love the no effort required from boxing day. I've barely moved from the sofa. Still in my PJs.

DustyMaiden · 26/12/2020 12:49

So much expectation for Christmas Day, so much pressure. Lovely to just sit and think how well it went.

HotSince63 · 26/12/2020 12:53

I've always loved Boxing Day.

We got up and had a lazy coffee, walked the dog, back home for bacon sarnies and a bit of a tidy up and now DS has gone to his room for a bit (I think he's had enough of our company, he likes his alone time Grin) we're sitting down with a film on in the background, wondering whether it's too early to open a bottle of champagne.

Dinner later is all leftovers from yesterday, the only thing I'll need to make is fresh roasties.

girlcrushonvillanelle · 26/12/2020 13:16

YANBU

I don't have to do anything today, and the house is full of food, chocolate and booze.

Normally we are off visiting family.

My life is normally so hectic.

Just had an hour long bath with Buck's Fizz.

Fuckstickss · 26/12/2020 13:21

I'm in bed watching the football with a plate of leftover roast potatoes. So much better than yesterday.

ColourMeExhausted · 26/12/2020 13:30

Oh my enjoy OP! Sounds bloody brilliant! Not at all BU - the part of Christmas i was guiltily most excited about was the three days we had booked off early Jan when both DC were due to be back at nursery and school. Sadly this is not happening as we're in Scotland and am gutted. Was desperate for that me time. So I say enjoy every bite and sip, and regret nothing!
