Tight chest and coughing - negative cv test

Emptyspacex · 25/12/2020 23:07

So I had a bit on a blocked nose and sore throat sunday/Monday which lead to a cough.
I had a covid test Tuesday which came back negative Wednesday.
I now have a dry cough and tight chest, don't feel ill at all, no temp.

Shall I just ride it out or book another test? Breathing feels a bit heavy but not a struggle.
Does anyone recommend a certain cough syrup for tight chest?
Thanks in advance.

If you got a negative test, may you've got a chest infection.

Have you got a humidifier? The best thing for a tight chest is humidity. Open windows (to let the dry air out), put damp towels on hot radiators, take a shower or hot bath, turn on any humidifiers or vaporisers (like the aromatherapy ones that send out cool mist)

Didn't you post this exact thread yesterday?

Perhaps speak to a pharmacist.

There are false negative tests, and you might be one of them. Equally might be a chest infection. If you are worried about yourself maybe call the nhs helpline (111) and speak to them for advice.

Phone your pharmacist, could be big standard chesty cough/ infection.

Rest up and stay in til you’re better if you can.

If you had a negative test after you started feeling ill then you probably don't have covid. All the illnesses that were around before covid still exist so it's probably one of those! I hope you feel better soon.

I get this with a reflux cough. Do you have that?

Or a tight chest with stress.

OP, I'm asthmatic and have annoyingly regular bouts of bronchitis and occasional pneumonia. There's a really good 'herbal' cough medicine that I was given by an acupuncturist years ago that I never let myself run out of - it's called Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa and you can usually source from Amazon Prime or call any local TCM acupuncture clinics and see if they have stock. Definitely worth a shot to see if you can source some, it really helps.

Apart from that, I agree that humidifying is great and I'd definitely consider asking for a second test in a couple of days if your symptoms persist. Wish you better soon.
