To use smoked streaky bacon over the turkey

No non smoked streaky left anywhere so opted for 'cooking bacon' ... didnt realise until tonight that its smoked.

So the turkey is prepped ready for the oven tomorrow with the smoky bacon strewn over the top .... bit nervous its going to taste awful

Has anyone used smoky bacon before and it turned out ok?

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is standard, even if I think smoked bacon is revolting.

Definitely smoked. Stuck to the skin with a sinful amount of salted butter. Best part of the day right there.

Unsmoked bacon tastes all flabby and horrible.

I assume you actually like smoked bacon? If so then it won't make anything taste awful.

I dont like smoked bacon on the turkey but I went with maple cured as a compromise

I normally use smoked but couldn't get it this year.. Im not happy!!

I wanted smoked but could not get it so ended up with unsmoked.
All of the recipes I saw suggested smoke so I think your turkey will be fab

We use either for cooking depending on what's in the fridge.

We've smoky streaky bacon for ours too. I can't believe I'm not asleep and dc will be up at 7am

Nooooooooo! Smoked bacon is awful & will taint everything - I suppose it might be ok if you like that fake smoke tang to everything else ... If you must use it, why not soak the bacon in water first to remove some of the artificial flavour? (Obviously if you have the very high quality proper smoked bacon that has just a tiny hint of oak, that’s different- bog standard smoked stuff from Tescburys or Asdi is just nasty & Christmas dinner just won’t taste like Christmas dinner!)

It's not artificial if you buy decent smoked bacon. I hated smoked bacon until. I tried half decent stuff that had actually been smoked and not just injected with smoke flavour.

Unsmoked for us. Our Turkey crown has just come out of the oven and DH is busily munching his way through the bacon covering whilst drinking fizz and watching a Carry On film😁

It's always smoked in our household. Husband wouldn't hear the words unsmoked without hissing 😂

Well the turkey was a huge success

Ever so slightly tinged with a smoky flavour but not entirely noticeable. Lovely and moist too. Went down a storm.
