Cooking the in laws

Pumba3 · 24/12/2020 16:37

Is is unreasonable to consider cooking the in laws for Christmas dinner as they have NOT STOPPED EATING since they got here and we will have run out of food by tomorrow?

Sitting here laughing. Roast on a spit?

Level75 · 24/12/2020 19:04

I know this isn't the point, but why are they staying overnight?

switswooo · 24/12/2020 19:06

Why are they even there, OP? Couldn’t you have you got out of having them over due to the ‘rona?

Heatherjayne1972 · 24/12/2020 19:08

But will they fit in the oven ....

Northernmummy80 · 24/12/2020 19:08

I have a good slow cooker recipe that is great with tougher bits of meat if you want it 🤣😂

Nikhedonia · 24/12/2020 19:23

@Level75

I know this isn't the point, but why are they staying overnight?
There's nothing to suggest the OP is in a restricted area... they could even be in another country Confused
BillysMyBunny · 24/12/2020 19:33

Anyone else lumbered with the in laws with no escape in sight....yet?!

I doubt it considering the guidelines state guests should only be visiting on Christmas Day with no overnight visits. For those following the rules the end will be in sight as guests will be limited to tomorrow only.

Mochudubh · 24/12/2020 19:36

Makes me think of Hansel & Gretel. Here MIL, would you like a closer look at my new oven? SLAM!!!

SkySports · 24/12/2020 19:50
@Fuckingcrustybread I can further confirm your comment by adding that at £300 on groceries I doubt that is the problem! My FiL is currently directing my husband in where to move the bed in the spare room as he doesn’t like it’s original position fml!!
Grin

that's funny

They want to feel at home.

SkySports · 24/12/2020 19:51

@Mountainpika

Sitting here laughing. Roast on a spit?
Oh my!

Spit roasting the MIL? Now that is rude.

Inaseagull · 24/12/2020 20:08

Oh dear, good luck OP looking at MIL for the rest of, well, forever as a spit roast!

I was going to suggest you don't as you'd probably just choke on them.

Pumba3 · 24/12/2020 21:16

@Fuckingcrustybread they are the most inconvenient guests you could imagine. I feel utterly uncomfortable in my own home xx

Pumba3 · 24/12/2020 21:18

@Level75 I wasn’t included in the decision making they got on a flight and my oh said OK they really shouldn’t be here at all!!

worksleep · 24/12/2020 21:20

This post has really made me smile!

Pumba3 · 24/12/2020 21:20

@BillysMyBunny we are in NI they got on a flight before the rules kicked in here and unfortunately we are lumbered with them until they get a flight back to the mainland. Believe me I’d there was somewhere for me to Chuck them out to I would.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 24/12/2020 21:43

@VinylDetective

I bet they’d be really tough.
Slow cooking is the answer.
MaryLeeOnHigh · 24/12/2020 21:45

Hide anything that remains of your food and drink supplies and tell them it's a fasting Christmas. I bet they'll decide to go home.

ReallySpicyCurry · 24/12/2020 21:48

NI?

Shame it's not July, you could have bbqd them

foreverandalways · 24/12/2020 21:59

I feel for you...truly do....speak up and set them straight please or offend...like shit would I pit up with that in my own home...I have my father and my son at home with me tomorrow and am dreading it truthfully...not well myself with health issues and sick of thinking of others before myself...the back of the camel has snapped and it's the last year I will be hosting that's for sure...no more...definitely not....also, I find that people just assume that food and drink appears from the shop for free and come to the home empty handed, I am expected to taxi everyone back and forth around, unable to have a drink myself...really pissed off truthfully and I am sure you feel the same...tell them they know where the kettle, fridge and washing up liquid is and that due to circumstances you would prefer not to spend so much close contact with them and excuse yourself to your room...good luck x

Pumba3 · 24/12/2020 22:23

@foreverandalways thank you for responding, I’m sorry you aren’t in good health! I hope your family make a fuss of you this year but if they are anything like mine I think it might be a stretch for Santa. I will plod on until they go but this will not happen again, one of their other children can host them for Christmas, but they would have to be on speaking terms first for that to happen!! Good luck xx

I suggest a sweet n sour receipe for inlaws, BBC Good Food has some great suggestions

MrsToothyBitch · 25/12/2020 00:46

Sounds like they've both been stuffed and marinated. I'd shove the old bird on a low and slow in the oven, but the pig will require high heat to make the most of the fat and crackling.

Pour yourself a gin to go along with. Gin
