There was no milk in my local Tescos today. Or cream etc. Aibu to wonder why? Does it have something to do with Brexit/ Covid?

I went to the supermarket at 8pm this eve. I got milk, butter, vegetables, sausages, soft drinks.the only thing I couldnt get was a baking ingredient that wasnt vital. And own brand cat food.

Coffeeandcookies · 23/12/2020 23:45

Do you live in Dover OP? That would explain it.

Saladd0dger · 23/12/2020 23:46

Its busy! We are trying our best. Some stores have put night shifts on but they don’t start till stupid o’clock. There is plenty coming in on multiple deliveries daily. You should of just asked if there was any milk out the back

GrumpyHoonMain · 23/12/2020 23:46

Milk is British so except for the channel islands stuff wouldn’t be impacted. Try another supermarket?

helloxhristmas · 23/12/2020 23:46

I had to go to Aldi earlier, only to get apple sauce that apparently the kids can't live without for Christmas dinner. It was empty at 1730, they had everything, I could have done a full Christmas shop, apart from milk. No milk of any variety. I wonder where their supply chain comes from. No cream, sour cream, Crewe fraiche etc.

Chanandlerbong01 · 23/12/2020 23:47

None it mine today either! No veg or dishwasher tablets either

VirtualLearning · 23/12/2020 23:47

I should think more people are stocking up at once rather than there being any real shortage. We bought more milk than normal yesterday as had used everything up thinking we were away for Christmas

Appzy · 23/12/2020 23:54

Milk was fine, but no cream of nay kind to be found in Aldi or Tesco near me! Only Waitrose seemed to be fairly well stocked of everything.

maybelou · 24/12/2020 00:20

My local Tesco was completely out of milk when I went this evening!

YewandOak · 24/12/2020 00:27

My Tesco (North Somerset) had plenty this morning

junecat · 24/12/2020 00:35

Milk ok up here but very little fresh veg and bread

SuperbGorgonzola · 24/12/2020 00:45

I was in morrisons yesterday before 7am and they had everything I wanted. Shelves were well stocked.

I did notice Wilkos seemed oddly bare last week though.

Spaghettibetty345 · 24/12/2020 00:53

There was absolutely no chicken in Waitrose and marks and spenders today

midnightstar66 · 24/12/2020 01:06

Probably just an individual supply issue or ordering error. Local Sainsbury's barely had anything fresh yesterday evening but all other shops bursting at the seams with it so must have just been an individual issue or short staffed to restock or something

HelplessProcrastinator · 24/12/2020 01:11

Big Sainsbury’s at 9.00 this evening loads of milk on the shelves.

JellyTeapot · 24/12/2020 01:11

Plenty at my local Tesco an hour ago. No Christmas crackers though, and the ones I ordered haven't arrived yet Sad

Strictlysilly · 24/12/2020 01:28

Lots in my local shops.

Littleposh · 24/12/2020 01:36

I had the pleasure of doing Tesco, M and S and Sainsbury's today, all had plenty.

I also had milk brought with my delivery this evening . . . I know, I know . . .

midnightstar66 · 24/12/2020 01:37

@JellyTeapot I've noticed lots of seasonal stuff running out early this year where there is usually excess left over after the events. Had the same issue with Halloween things, advent calendars and sweet tubs. It's not working well for my last minute shopping self!

coastergirl · 24/12/2020 01:45

In my local tesco extra on Tuesday the milk aisle was completely empty. I've never seen it like that, and I'm in there a lot!

BrummyMum1 · 24/12/2020 01:58

I’ve started washing my bottom with milk in anticipation for toilet roll shortages, maybe others in your area are doing the same.

malificent7 · 24/12/2020 04:46

Grin there are no cranberries this year...i wanted to make my lovely cranberry sauce but will go for a jar instead.

Something I noticed over last few months... Just an inexplicable hole in one item. It was cold meat for a while. Eggs once. Bacon. Milk. Everything else aeound it fine. Then back a few days later... Or plenty in one of the other supermarkets.

Fifthtimelucky · 24/12/2020 06:34

No normal milk in my Tesco either, and very little cream. I bought a couple of bottles of the Channel Island Jersey full fat stuff and some oat milk. Whipping cream rather than double.

Also very little bread and no cranberries. I asked about the cranberries and they weren't out of them, just had never had them in. Perhaps not enough people buy them anymore. I went out again later and bought some at M&S so will be making cranberry sauce later today.

Crayfishforyou · 24/12/2020 06:56

@JellyTeapot mine is out of crackers too!

Ours is also out of limes and lemons

I guess a lot of people are sticking into the gin
