Could I ask you ladies thoughts on this and tell me aibu. I have a friend who I shall call Christine we have been friends for several years. I feel that I have been a lovely friend and supported her in many ways from loaning her money to letting her stay with us with her daughter whilst she was moving house. She has now met this man who I have only met twice I she seems to have dumped me. She has really contacts me. I have had some extended family issues which are important to me but I have had no calls to see how things are. She is aware of them. This morning I get a gushy Christmas card from her with a beautiful verse saying what a wonderful friend I am! Aibu not to send one back? We have since we met sent this type of card as I know she likes them xx

YWBU yes. Tell her you miss her.

No card and stop bothering with her. It’s only a decent friendship if it works for both of you. Ditching you because she’s got a new bloke is shitty. Not offering any support when you’re going through a hard time is very shitty.

Ditch Christine and I hope you have other friends or family to lean on.

You should send one back. If you were such close friends, perhaps you ought to give her a chance

anotherdoghere · 23/12/2020 21:51

Thank you ladies I thought it was me being unreasonable. I have always taken my friendships seriously and always found time for them. I do miss her but I am starting to think I was just a useful person to have around x

Did she pay back the money?

HangOnToYourself · 23/12/2020 21:55

I think a lot of people do this at the start of a new relationship, it's hard not to take it personally but if you give it time once she is out of the honeymoon phase she may be fine again

anotherdoghere · 23/12/2020 22:02

Christine paid me back all the money x

I'd send a card back and tell her you miss her. Give her a chance. It's not right but it's really easy to get wrapped up when you're in a new relationship. If things don't improve then pull back but if you're really close to her I think you'd regret it in the future if you didn't at least try and get back on track.
