Emergency dental appt soon and I'm bricking it

Haven't been to the dentist for years, had so many other health issues going on that I never got round to it. Yes this was stupid of me.

Now I have an infected crown (well, whatever is left under it) and have an emergency appointment for it to be looked at.

My white coat anxiety has increased exponentially in recent years and I'm absolutely bricking it.

AIBU to ask for a teeny handhold, despite the stupidity?

Sometimes things get away from us all. Hand hold from me... just imagine the relief from the pain!

That's what I'm clinging onto!

It’s horrid OP but they have amazing anaesthetics these days. I went to the dentist for the first time in several years last week for an emergency appointment. It was uncomfortable but not at all painful and the relief of my tooth pain being gone is worth a little bit of discomfort. Just float away to your happy place and trust that you are in good hands and the pain will soon be gone. Good luck!

Remember it makes the dentist's job far more difficult to have a wriggling and squirming patient, so they will make absolutely sure you have no pain.

Check the agreed signal for "stop immediately" (usually a hand raise) then you know you're in control.

I was right, it does have to come out. Dentist is v experience maxillofacial surgeon and explained the whole procedure to me. She recommended waiting until after Xmas because the infection isn't so bad that it warrants immediate action. So will do it next week. Am expecting it to be a bit like when I had my impacted wisdom tooth out, and I was v sore after that.
