Hopefully ianbu. If you have a frozen turkey ( I went with Cook this year), remember to take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge.
Mine says 48 hours before cooking. So now! (Ish)

Having read the instructions I have also realised that daughters 1 and 3 have used all the foil as well. So that's needed as well

If you need to speed up the defrosting put it in a big bag, get rid of as much air as you can & seal it well. Put the whole lot in a bath of cold water. Change the water every couple of hours.

BashfulClam · 23/12/2020 08:39

Mine takes 39 hours to defrost in the fridge so I’ll get it out at lunchtime.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 23/12/2020 08:41

Mine's in a box in the garage. Bbc good food said 48 hrs in the garage.

Boulshired · 23/12/2020 08:41

I’m not having turkey but I might rewatch the royal family Christmas specials. As I too have had the still slightly frozen turkey on Christmas morning as the panic.

To be exact 🤣

Omg thank you!!!

nosswith · 23/12/2020 09:39

YANBU, most people do not cook something so large at other times of the year.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 23/12/2020 09:41

my rib of beef came out this AM as well. I will transfer to the boot of the car now though - great idea.

Belledan1 · 23/12/2020 09:43

Did anyone watch The Royale family when Denise forgot get the turkey out and they tried to defrost in the bath. Dave was having a bath at the same time!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 23/12/2020 10:24

Lots of people might have bought early and frozen this year too.

You’re a good person.

DonkeyMcFluff · 23/12/2020 10:29

I can’t fit mine in the fridge and DH won’t let me put it in the garage in case the mice get it. So we are probably all going to die of food poisoning.

Plsv87 · 23/12/2020 10:29

I've also taken out the ham for tomorrow and the sausage meat and puff pastry for the boxing day sausage roll wreath. Feel like I am forgetting something though...

coldwaterfeed · 23/12/2020 10:30

We are taking chances and buying a fresh one tomorrow.

Plsv87 · 23/12/2020 10:30

I froze my chipolatas and streaky bacon - they should come out of the freezer tomorrow, right?

Honeyroar · 23/12/2020 10:31

Thank you! I haven’t got my head round the fact it’s the 23rd. I think ours sat in the garden for the first five or six hours last year!

Honeyroar · 23/12/2020 10:32

It wouldn’t matter if you defrosted chipolatas today. As long as you’ve fridge space.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 23/12/2020 10:38

Oh good point 're sausages and streaky bacon! I froze those just to stop them being eaten beforehand.

I always cook, carve and freeze turkey at the beginning of December so I only have to defrost portion sizes on Christmas morning (even easier this year as just the two of us, and I know how much we eat), but the frozen turkey crown this year said 24 hours to defrost in the fridge and actually took nearer to 36!!! which is why I was carving and bagging it for freezing at midnight. I couldn't even put it back in the fridge to do the next day as we'd done a shop and filled it up.

The moral of this story is:
Whoever writes the defrost info for the turkey wrapping does NOT actually cook it Xmas Wink.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 23/12/2020 12:51

I think I'll check it in the fridge tomorrow and give it a few hours on the bench if it's still solid

OP posts:
SimpleLife003 · 23/12/2020 14:10

Do you leave it in the wrap or take it out? Mines currently in it and (don’t ask why) but I’m scared to take it out, I’m terrified of turkeys and chickens, although I will happily eat them 😂

If it needs taking out will it be okay in there until around 6pm when DP gets home?

DunravenBadger · 23/12/2020 14:14

Got mine out on Monday night to cook tomorrow morning. Not enough space in our oven to cook turkey and all the trimmings on Christmas Day. Turkey said up to 52 hours so I'm guessing Monday night was fine? First time for me cooking a turkey so not sure.

Thanks for the giblets reminder. DH cooked one before we got together and said he left the giblets (plastic and all) in when he cooked it - oops!

DunravenBadger · 23/12/2020 14:15

We made up our pigs in blankets and then froze instead of freezing the chipolatas and bacon separately. Do we cook from frozen or defrost them? I'm definitely no housewife...

SpiderinaWingMirror · 23/12/2020 14:46

I've left mine the wrap to start with.
