I got a tiny cut on my foot about 4 weeks ago, which hasn’t healed: so I amazoned Some liquid skin which I applied a week ago. Since this morning there’s a red line moving up away from my toe. Should I try and get antibiotics incase?
Thanks

@OverTheRainbow88

I didn’t have any other symptoms and I didn’t feel unwell either. I remember I had to have a week off work to rest as instructed by the doctor because I was mortified as I’d just started a new job! I recall the one started to go down after two days of strong antibiotics but it took around 5 days for it to disappear completely. I wouldn’t want to ill-advise you so I’m not sure about the elevation thing. Keep an eye on it and if you don’t see an improvement after 48 hours of taking the antibiotics or it suddenly gets work, seek advice ASAP. Hopefully the antibiotics will do the job xx

*red line (not one)

*worse (not work) lol

The red line is still there but defo looking less aggressive... phew!

Feel so silly leaving a cut for 4 weeks without it healing and not doing anything about it. Lesson learnt I guess.

I'm so glad that you got antibiotics!! I skinned my knee last year and cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and still ended up getting a nasty case of cellulitis with that red streak going from my knee up my leg and making the lymph nodes in my groin swell up. It's crazy how randomly something so small can get infected and it's very easy to overlook an infection, so I'm glad you dealt with it. It should improve very soon!

Sorry, me again @charlottemont and @Beconase20

Did your red lines totally disappear after you finished the antibiotics?

So I finished mine this morning, the red line has faded but is still there but much lighter. I’ve also pain in the same ankle but that could be a coincidence.
Tried to call GP today to ask if
I should have another antibiotic course but they are closed,
Hoping they are open tomo!

I’ve got a sudden rush of anxiety that I have sepsis, which realistically if I did I would be feeling very ill by now I guess!

Yes mine had totally gone BEFORE finishing the antibiotics. It does sound like you probably need another course. If they aren’t open tomorrow ring 111 and see if you can get to see a locum doctor at the hospital or if you can get a phone call to discuss it. Try not to panic, if you’re well in yourself that’s good news and the antibiotics will still be working which is why they say complete the whole course. Obviously, if you suddenly feel unwell or the line gets any worse (good idea to draw around it right now) ring 111/999. Wishing you a speedy recovery. X

If you’re really not sure ring 111 anyway and take further advice x

@Beconase20

Thank you, I’ll call them tomo.

Did you take oral antibiotics or ones from a drip?

Oral antibiotics but I couldn’t tell you what they were cos it was so long ago. They were double strength I do remember!

OverTheRainbow88 · 28/12/2020 18:15

@Beconase20
Thank you, that’s what I’ve had.

I’ll call GP tomo and ask for some more, but if few worse in night will call 111.

Thank you 😊
