Please be honest but gentle cos I honestly don't know if I've got this totally out of proportion:

DH was going to M&S to get the turkey. We're not usually M&S shoppers but I got a voucher from work. Instead, he went to Tesco and has come back with a Bernard Matthews one.

AIBU to be upset or is there actually no difference?

Turkey will never be dry and tasteless if you use the Nigella method. You can't go wrong with it and it is so delicious

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 22/12/2020 16:41

It is actually free range so that makes me feel a little better.

Bernard Matthews and free range.... you might want to do some research....or not. BM standards are very poor.

partyatthepalace · 22/12/2020 20:37

Ach I bet it will be fine. You’ll hardly notice once you’ve got bread sauce and and gravy and the rest of it.

Tigger03 · 22/12/2020 20:49

I think I saw the one you’re referring to - fresh crown in a nice box with bacon and stuffing etc. It looked fine! And a long way from the frozen turkey drummers...

Honestly I doubt you’ll notice the difference

Bernard Matthews are one of the countries main Turkey suppliers to food retailers under their own brand.

isseys4xmastinselcats · 22/12/2020 21:30

Beladan 1 nothing wrong with an iceland crown thats what we are having on christmas day, and BM might be better now but a few years ago they were hauled over the coals for the way their farms were run appalling welfare issues

Clutterbugsmum · 22/12/2020 21:53

To be honest we have had very expensive turkey from a butcher and a 'cheap' one from Aldi (it was on sale after Christmas) an there was very little difference in taste.

Belledan1 · 23/12/2020 09:28

Hi Issey. Its just a breast one wrapped in bacon. Only 3.00. There is the only the 2 of them and the lady eats like a bird. Doing lots of veg, stuffing, pigs in blankets. Roast and mash so be enough. Bit worried might be a bit dry when they reheat it but she said might leave cold or heat in the gravy. I would have done it on the day for them but I am cooking at a relatives. Not going to plate it either will given everything seperate so can choose how much they want.

Haffiana · 23/12/2020 09:33

Waitrose free range turkey is moist and delicious. I wonder if all the people who hate turkey have only eaten rubbish cheap ones.

Ragwort · 23/12/2020 09:40

Haffiana - I hope you are right about the Waitrose free range Turkey - I've just got back from Waitrose, I am always happy with a frozen Turkey but they had none (I couldn't face trying any other shops) so I had to buy the fresh, free range one .... I really hope it is good for the price Grin

Christmassequins · 23/12/2020 09:42

M & S are supplied by Bernard Matthews. There's such a fake snobbery about buying from them. I'm sure it'll be fine.

My dad has worked at Bernard matthews since 2003, I started working there in 2020 and my mum worked there since 2004. Between the months of November-1st January they mass produce turkeys, they have their own private farms and the turkeys are all corn fed. Along with having an on-site vet that checks the turkeys every morning for any ailments or sickness they also kill them humanely. They produce them by the hundreds of thousands. An M&S director will usually be there during Christmas period helping out. Even if you think your turkey isn’t coming from Bernard matthews, likelyhood is that it is. And majority of your chicken is coming from two sisters which is from Bernard matthews sister company two sisters. In the last 5 or so years there has been huge developments and changes in the way that they produce and clean in their factories as well as look after there turkeys
