To want a toilet seat that doesn’t slide!

DragonLegs · 22/12/2020 09:25

I’m not sure what on earth I’m doing wrong but every toilet seat I buy starts of really secure but 2 weeks in is sliding all over the place! I spent £60 on the latest one that is doing the same! Plus the kid won’t stay up on its own Sad.

We’ve a square shaped toilet son not sure if this is part of the problem. Has anyone come across a solution? I seriously considering just ditching the seats all together!

I have this issue but its just me. No one else in the house has it happen to them so I assume I've just got a wonky arse. Confused

TeapotCollection · 22/12/2020 09:29

We had this! Spent loads on about 5 of the things then ended up trying a cheapo value one from Argos and it’s been great

TeapotCollection · 22/12/2020 09:29

Wonky arse 😂

Davros · 22/12/2020 09:30

I always thought it was my fat arse but maybe it's more common than I thought. Word of warning - never get an "interesting" shaped toilet. We had one that was impossible to get a new seat for. Not just the shape but the two attachment hinge things were an unusual distance apart!

Cornettoninja · 22/12/2020 09:37

The £15 sta-tite one from Argos put an end to our endless toilet seat replacements. About eighteen months and still going strong. No idea if they do a d-shaped version though.

If you have your toilet roll anywhere but directly next to the toilet it’s all the twisting round that loosens the seat if that’s something you could fix relatively easily?

Voyager54 · 22/12/2020 09:39

I understand the issue the best seat we had was secured not with plastic screws and bolts but with metal connections never had to adjust in years and then we moved.

There are extra parts/ connections on e bay and Amazon that you can fit to make the seat more secure. www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=stop+toliet+seat+moving&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=

However from bitter experience there are so many types it is difficult to match the seat to the extra fittings

HeronLanyon · 22/12/2020 09:44

I hate toilet seats - buying ‘fitting’ (ha) and sitting o. The fuckers.
Mine is currently secure. I swear if someone dislodges it there will be serious trouble.

Once all of our current shot shows are over or lessened perhaps we should campaign for provision to us all of -
Secure loo seats
Charging cables audio cables which actually work for more then a few weeks.
Oh and maybe live where we don’t have food poverty ffs.
Got that off my chest !

Cornettoninja · 22/12/2020 12:57

That was an epic digression @HeronLanyon - well done! Grin

Dodie66 · 22/12/2020 13:01

You can get different bolts that hold it in place better. Do a Google search

Charging cables audio cables which actually work for more then a few weeks

I keep seeing this mentioned on here. In a decade of owning a smartphone, kindle, tablet, cameras and various sports trackers that all require USB charging cables, plus the same for DP, I have never had to replace one except when one of the cats went through a chewy bitey phase as a kitten.

We're not especially careful (see aforementioned cat, who is one of dozens of kittens that have passed through this house in the last few years as we foster, and they all like to play with charging cables) and generally keep these things for much longer than average (my tablet must be about 5 years old, my kindle is even older and phones generally last 3-4 years at least, so if I knew what we weren't doing with our cables, compared to those who are constantly replacing theirs, I would happily share, to satisfy my own curiousity, if nothing else.

dudsville · 22/12/2020 13:12

Are you getting the fight size and fittings for your toilet??

DragonLegs · 22/12/2020 20:51

Yeah I’m buying the correct size according to the measurements online, but looking at this one it must be too big as there’s not enough space for the lid to stay up when the seat and lid are up.

I've fitted a lot of toilet seats in my life. I found that cleaning all surfaces and using the right amount of good quality silicone sealant glues the seat in place so combined with the mechanical fixing it can't move.

marvelousmadmadammim · 22/12/2020 21:01

been there spend a fortune on numerous types of seat and fitting.

Mastic is the only solution

A bit around the top of the fixing holes and it won't budge again!

Oldenoughtobedead · 22/12/2020 21:27

I used to have this problem. There is a very specialist bathroom shop in the city where I live - mainly expensive bathrooms for rich people but the person who runs it is an expert in all things bathroom. He recommended this pressalit.com/en-uk/toilet-seats/toilet-seats/pressalit-projecta-pro-896/p-896011-db4999/. - I think that’s the model I’ve got, but it is definitely the brand that he recommended. It has amazing adjustable hinges that mean I’ve not had the problem since fitting the seat. I probably tighten the hinges once a year - you can feel when it starts to need doing and the tool it comes with makes it a really easy job. I’m not easily impressed but I love my loo seat.

EmmanuelleMakro · 22/12/2020 21:29

Watching with interest as I thought it was just me!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 22/12/2020 21:31

Its where you turn to get the loo roll, I think. Just tighten it up regularly.

pumpkinpie01 · 22/12/2020 23:06

Glad it's not just this house !
