To ask where I’m supposed to buy clothes now?

Late 30’s. Used to buy online at warehouse or oasis, or browse local Debenhams. Trying to shop online and I don’t know if it’s a covid effect on production, I’m suddenly really old or what but the clothes are just....bizarre. Shoulder pads, bits cut out, sleeves that look like wind socks etc. I don’t think my dress sense is especially dull, but.....no.

So... where Can I buy some nice tops? Enlighten me

YANBU, I've realised I've mostly bought from Debenhams these past few years.

It was great to order from various concessions for free home delivery and easy returns.

The only silver lining is it will mean I spend less money.

ComtesseDeSpair · 22/12/2020 00:16

Buy secondhand, eBay is your friend. I haven’t bought much new for years just because I don’t like a lot of recent styles.

Otherwise, go to John Lewis and look at their concessions. Far better than Debenhams, who were always pretty hit and miss.

Zara - but you have to see beyond the way the clothes are modelled😂

ASOS - see if there’s a brand on there that you like? I like Monki and Religion but ASOS own brand is good

Manamou - modern classics

Silk Fred - huge range

I love the current fashions, the stuff in recent years hasn't suited me at all!

Have you tried uniqlo or vero moda?
Also mango...h&m, next

purpletrees16 · 22/12/2020 00:34

Uniqlo, Hobbs, collectif (1950s), shoe embassy. I get a lot of my stuff from little shops around London market areas but I tend to a certain old fashioned style. North face do good technical stuff.

Though saying that in lockdown I have basically worn a mix of decathlon and sweaty Betty and fleeces.

Mostly I care for natural materials, cut and long lasting stuff I’ll get 10 years out of if not gym or underwear.

Bettydot · 22/12/2020 00:51

Same here! I’ve bought some stuff from Joules recently and I like the Hush range stocked at John Lewis and sometimes buy the odd thing from Oliver Bonas too.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 22/12/2020 00:59

I'm mid-30s and my most worn tops are Uniqlo and Muji. I'm wearing a Muji jumper right now and it's lovely.

AllesAusLiebe · 22/12/2020 01:00

I feel you, op. I'm 36 and I did like Debenham's and will miss it. Nowadays, I spend most of the time lounging around in jogging pants but my go-to places are Zara, Mango, Mint Velvet, and Esprit. Vero Moda is nice, too.

I also like Zalando for online shopping.

HelloDoris · 22/12/2020 01:02

I buy in charity shops or jumbles if I can. Or swap with friends/family.

If I want new I tend to look in Sainsburys at their Tu range, I feel they are the best of the supermarket ranges.

I would love to be able to afford to shop at sea salt and joules etc but I can't.. So sainsburys works for me.

Thewiseoneincognito · 22/12/2020 01:03

Uniqlo

Net a porter
COS
Joseph
Selfridges
Reiss

Plenty of places.

Strictlysilly · 22/12/2020 01:41

I agree with op Tu at sainsburys is really good just now.

NotPrude · 22/12/2020 01:46

Coast and Karen Millen are my go tos.

Ratsindahouse · 22/12/2020 01:51

H&M, Hush, Zara, Free People, silk Fred, Boohoo,All Saints - depends on budget really but I like all of those x

hilariousnamehere · 22/12/2020 01:54

Collectif, Harkel, HolyClothing and Sainsbury's are my eclectic normal stops :)

PopsicleHustler · 22/12/2020 05:28

Wearesenior.com

They are having a massive sale on and do just about everything. Including casual and fancy clothing. I think its upto 90 or 95 percent off everything atm. I shop there frequently.

takemebacktoelectricavenue · 22/12/2020 06:36

Uniqlo is my favourite place to buy clothes, their stuff seems to last ages as well.

Zooforhouse · 22/12/2020 07:23

Thanks all! Lots of places I haven’t considered and I kind of forgot about sainsburys, I get lots from there when I used to go in, didn’t occur to me to shop online. I agree that second hand is a great option, I like charity shops, but am in tier 4, so not going to any for a while. Have found e bay hit and miss for a while, I had a baby in April, I’m not even 100% sure on my size 😂
