To think Royal Mail should have delivered this by now?

Last Wednesday (16th) I posted lots of packages to various family members in the uk. They weren’t expensive things so I didn’t want to have them signed for. I sent them second class and not one person has received any of them, there were hand made cards from DD, presents for my whole family dispersed around the UK. I’ll be so gutted if they’ve got lost in the post.
Does anyone know if Royal Mail are particularly slow at the moment or not?
Thanks for reading.

I bought something from eBay and seller has confirmed posted 7th December and it has still not arrived. I assume the staff at ‘royal’ Mail Are too preoccupied matching Love Honey parcels to Facebook Profiles...

PurpleFrames · 21/12/2020 21:54

2nd class is taking 3 weeks at the moment in my area (large city in the North).

HereBeFuckery · 21/12/2020 21:54

@Wicker382

HereBeFuckery what a shitty reply. No he doesn't need to find a 'better job' thanks very much. He enjoys his work a great deal and is a valued member of the community he delivers to which was reflected in the £700 in tips he was given by his customers last year. Who stole your chritmas spirit? There's no need to be so angry about it, my DH isn't, he's getting on and getting the job done and I'm very proud of the work he does.
Royal Mail stole it. They stole it by failing to prepare for the usual Christmas rush + COVID extra parcels and have left me with twelve different family members lacking presents. I'm waiting for things ordered mid Nov. I can't track them because even the tracking is fucked.

I'm not criticising your DH. I'm sure he is a great person, and I'm glad his hard work is valued.

I'm criticising RM who have been frighteningly incompetent. They KNEW this was coming. They've known as long as we all have. They did so little to prepare and have left customers up shit creek.

But it's okay, stamps will cost nearly a quid each in January, so there's that to look forward to. The fucking sheer EFFRONTERY of increasing prices that much when you can't do your jobs properly beggars belief. Fuck you, Royal Mail. Fuck you.

SparklingLime · 21/12/2020 21:55

Tracked48 has been working perfectly for parcels I’ve sent, and can be cheaper than ordinary first class. Have to buy online though, not in post offices. Tracked24 still available for anyone desperate.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 21/12/2020 21:56

RM is a disaster. Other couriers have been managing to meet normal delivery times. I waited over 2 weeks for a first class parcel, and I'm 2 weeks and counting waiting for another.

It's disgraceful. I never thought I'd say this, but Hermes and DHL have been fantastic and getting my packages to me. Hermes has the edge due to loads of local collect points and ease of returns.

What are they doing that RM can't seem to get right? Are they furloughing staff?

Daphnise · 21/12/2020 21:56

I find Royal Mail the most reliable carrier, so think you items will be delivered- though maybe not as quickly as you would like!

Shelby30 · 21/12/2020 21:57

Oh it's beyond a normal amount of slow because it's Christmas. I've heard they are really struggling.

My aunt posted me a parcel 1st class and it only had to come 5miles and it took 9 days!

I'm waiting on an item I ordered that was dispatched last Tuesday and tracking just says we have your parcel and no further updates 😫

I did get something arrive within a few days too though just your luck the now.

PeterPickerPacker · 21/12/2020 21:57

I posted two things guaranteed next day delivery on Friday 11th OP and they still aren't with the people they were meant for.

The tracking was 'in transit' from the 12th to literally today where it has now updated to say its on route to its destination.

movingonup20 · 21/12/2020 21:59

Last posting date for second class was last week for delivery on 24th so I wouldn't worry, I sent a letter 1st class signed for and it took 4 days earlier this month.

yellowcatss · 21/12/2020 22:00

yes they have failed they say delivery in 2-3 working days including Saturdays my my calculation they have had 4 Thursday Friday satarday and Monday so it will be at least 5 www.royalmail.com/sending/uk/2nd-class

BeHonestForEveryonesSake · 21/12/2020 22:03

My customer’s orders were posted first class about 1.5 week ago now. Nothing’s arrived.

There is definitely more than the usual Christmas mail delay this year.

NowellSingWe · 21/12/2020 22:07

We must be lucky- the three things I ordered on Friday arrived by royal mail this morning!

ApolloandDaphne · 21/12/2020 22:11

I posted something first class at the end of November and it took three weeks to arrive. We had given up hope.

Sway19 · 21/12/2020 22:12

My cards posted 1st class have taken 7 days to be delivered

FeelingBIue · 21/12/2020 22:26

Royal Mail are swamped.

To think Royal Mail should have delivered this by now?
rollinggreenhills · 21/12/2020 22:36

I went into our small village post office this morning, and the quantity of parcels that people were posting had to be seen to be believed. There were about a dozen massive full mailbags, and a mountain of large parcels. And that was just this morning's lot. The woman behind the counter was looking a bit ragged round the edges.

Newkitchen123 · 21/12/2020 22:40

All my amazon prime deliveries have been very quick but royal mail don't seem to be coping with the extra stuff. I'm still waiting on a 48 hour delivery I placed 9 days ago. It's not important so I'm not bothered it'll get here eventually

NotSoSecretSanta · 21/12/2020 22:42

My aunty posted my daughter's birthday card second class on 10th December..it arrived today.

ImInStealthMode · 21/12/2020 22:48

I sent a parcel on the 7th that hasn't arrived yet, I ordered one the same day and that came today. They're absolutely swamped.

stmartins60 · 21/12/2020 22:51

I posted a parcel second class from here in the North West of England to a village near Aberdeen last Wednesday afternoon and it was received on Saturday .

Fishfingersandwichplease · 21/12/2020 22:54

I was isolating and wanted to send my friend a gift voucher for a shop which is in her road. They charged me postage which l was happy with, it was only a pound bit it took over a week to arrive! Taking it to the post box would have been further away than if they had just put it through her door. But it turned up eventually is my point. RM have got massive backlogs at the moment.

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 21/12/2020 23:00

The company I work for uses Royal Mail, some deliveries taking over 2 weeks to arrive

jakscrakers · 21/12/2020 23:17

royal mail are abysmal, in November i sent my daughter a care package to her uni, i sent first class proof of posting, and it took three weeks to get there, i was actually in the Post Office asking about it when they searched and found it had been delivered the day before. All they said was well because of Covid we are lagging, pfft and now with Christmas on top of it

CheeseIsMyVice · 22/12/2020 06:40

I preempted issues and posted some stuff at the start of December first class. Some of it still hasn’t arrived at it’s destination.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 22/12/2020 06:42

My tracked 24 hour package took 6 days to arrive, I certainly wouldn't expect a 2nd class item to get anywhere in 4 days.
