Page 2 | I’m in a panic I can’t find my car keys

I’m in a right state I can’t think straight. I’ve lost my car keys, I’ve looked everywhere I can think of. I last used them last night and my car is locked so they can’t be in the car. I just don’t know what to do- what would you do? I don’t seem to have a spare set 😟

Thank you everyone- I was wearing clothes which had no pockets and normally put them on the kitchen work top when I return home. I’ve asked everyone I live with and they haven’t moved them.
I can be very absent minded and I must have got distracted before I got to the kitchen and put them somewhere else.
I’ve looked through the whole kitchen and every other room in the house and behind sofas etc.
A real mystery!

Mine were under the snow in works car park for a few days once.

Keep looking on the usual places you'd put them, things are usually where you think they'll be but for some reason your brain doesn't see them. There's probably a fancy name for it, I find it's definitely a thing.

Why are posters saying to check the door, it's car keys, it must be decades since you needed to lock a car with the keys

It's so annoying OP! As soon as you get them replaced, you'll find the old ones. At least then you'll have a spare set!

If you have a downstairs cupboard where you hang your coat check the shoes underneath! This is where I found my car keys once, took me an hour to retrace my steps.

Not helpful I once lost a set in an apparent black hole in my house. Genuinely disappeared!! Another time I lost them in a pencil case (which I hasn’t used for 9 months at least)

Mine have been

in the recycling
in one of the kids' wellies
in my underwear drawer
down the side of the sofa
on the floor of the coat cupboard

(apart from the time when I lost them out shopping and found the on top of the chocolate bars in Sainsbury's ....)

Ohhhh behind the radiator (just read your update). Maybe you got distracted on entering and placed them on the radiator?

I had this exact situation once - they were in the bin. Outside.

I'd clearly emptied pockets or had an absolute brain fart and binned them. Then tied up the bag and put it in the outside bin. I went through several bags before I found it. The panic was immense. Hope you find them soon, OP.

Errrm, because your car key and your house key are often on the same keyring?

Lost mine once, they fell out of my bag and I’d kicked them under my desk to the back wall. It took 3 looks under the desk to find them.
Search the floor.

Are they in the front door ? Did you carry something into the house ? Did they get caught up in your outdoor clothes - put in a hat, stuck in your coat sleeve. Do you have a DP/DH mine once took the wrong set of keys with him.

Hooray 😃 I found them! In the clean folded laundry pile! I have absolutely no recollection of how or why but am ecstatic!

Its so annoying! I lost mine last week just as I was leaving for the school run! My Husband who was supposed to be WFH had to quickly get in the loft, get the spare car seat and take our boy to school in his car (I cant drive a manual). Our DS coat was in the car too so I had to dig out the one I'd bought in the sale for next year. So lucky I had all these bits I could replace! We found the keys a few hours later on our bed under my Husbands spare laptop! So glad it wasn't me that had hidden them! So yeah, check under everything, even things you don't think would have moved!

Errrrm, no my car key and house key are never on the same keyring, you must be confusing me with someone else. And as the OP hasn't mentioned house keys I don't think she's lost those

I found mine in the fridge once, and another time in my shed, and yet another time in a kitchen cupboard after putting shopping away.
