Am I odd?

This might sound odd so I just want to check I'm normal! I hope I can explain it clearly.

Fairly frequently maybe average once a day I come out with a completely unrelated sentence to what I was talking or thinking about.
So example, i was talking about booking a holiday cottage and I was thinking of saying we have nobody coming for Christmas and instead said as we have no neighbours.

It just struck me after seeing my DH look at me strange, is this normal? I've probably noticed it for a over a year.

It's strange that it is completely unrelated and something I'm not thinking about. I think it makes it less odd if I had been thinking about neighbours at the same time but I wasn't.
Obviously it's not just this one example, it happens when talking about other things, I will just come out with a completely unrelated sentence that I wasn't even thinking about.

Is this odd, or something everyone does?

Its not like I'm even very old and getting muddled, I'm not quite middle aged yet!

I think it's fairly common if you have lots on your mind. I often come out with unrelated sentences if I'm thinking of two things at once. Then again I am menopausal so could be that!

I do things like that all the time. I think my brain tries to think of too many things at once then the wires short circuit and complete rubbish comes out. My DH is used to it now and mostly understands me!

They are known as 'brain farts' in our home. Probably in many others too. Its like there is too much in my head so one of the things comes out verbally, and totally unrelated to whats happening at the time. I usually write it down just in case its important while the kids piss themselves laughing.

I do this. I also remember my mum doing this at my age (50s) and her worrying that she was getting early onset dementia. She’s now 83 and bright as a button.

BluebellsGreenbells · 21/12/2020 11:41

We all do it! I think it depends if you notice you’ve said it or not!

Everyone in my house has ADHD and this is a fairly regular occurance for us. Its fine.

Mangermaid · 21/12/2020 11:50

No, I don't do this, but I don't think it's odd. I do other things that are probably odd, though. Like, I blurt out words or sounds if I'm turning things over in my mind. I try to not do it when there are other people around but it's hard to hold in.

Sounds like having too much on your mind / stress related to me.

When I’ve been super overwhelmed with work for long periods I come out with odd sentence structures, and have heard other people say they loose words.
