To say I hope we (as a country) look after the foreign lorry drivers caught up in disruption. Just heard on the radio lots of forigne lorry drivers are stranded in the UK and face days in their cabs. I just really feel for them. They do I vital job and this must be shit a few days before Christmas

I heard they had set up lorry parks already but I hope they are provided with plenty of food etc. Unfortunately I'm in the North East as otherwise I'd take some stuff myself! I just really feel for them.

Also just to say I used to work in supermarkets and there's absolutely no need to stockpile only 20% of all goods come through France. Wearhoysr will be well stocked. So as long as people don't panic buy there will be more than enough food for all.

Sadly we all know what happened last time and how that advice went down with certain people.

Surely it's down to the supermarket managers to prevent this with 'max two per customer' or whatever.

Apparently some HGV drivers have been given tickets for stopping in lay-bys.....I feel sorry for all HGV drivers especially the stuck ones. They have kept us fed all lockdown.

Someone offered a stable for them to stay in upthread

But it wasn’t particularly funny that first time, but at least it was slightly subtle.

My DH got stuck in snow on the M4 years ago in his lorry. Luckily he had a sleeper cab ( lots of units don't have them) but as hadn't planned to stay out overnight he had no sleeping bag etc. he had to sleep under the abandoned newspapers left by other drivers....he was so upset...all he could find was the sun!

Have thoughts about the poor lorry drivers all day - desperate to get home for Christmas no doubt! I so hope they do!

Local estimate say over 1000 lorries are waiting

Newgirls · 22/12/2020 09:47

1500 now in various places

I can believe that @Newgirls
