Help! I have been asked to prove FC exists by...

My DD has thrown me a Christmas curve ball (as if we don’t all have enough of those to deal with right now🙄) Her belief in Father Christmas hangs in the balance.... (apparently Sainsburys have been advertising that they sell stocking fillers and they would have no need to do if FC filled the stockings - thanks Sainsburys) She has therefore added an “impossible” ask to her list as a test of Father Christmas’s existence - and there’s no way he can deliver without some help!!

I’ve scoured ebay but no luck, and I get that everyone is at capacity right now, and also that maybe whether she believes or not is unimportant, but I’d like to provide a glimmer of magic if I can.

So am very hopefully asking if there are any London mumsnetters who might have an unloved, unused blue John Lewis hairband from last Christmas season lying around which I could buy from them? I can collect in socially distanced way from most areas of London. I’m attaching pictures - it was navy with a kind of knot at the centre and had swans and flowers embroidered down one side. Came from JL kids dept last Christmas (she lost it on an outing earlier this year).

I know it’s probably ridiculous to ask but... here’s hoping!

sergeilavrov Thank you. That sounds like a creative solution - I have no idea what Fiverr is, but I will check it out in the morning - I’m so intrigued!

I actually really hope someone comes up trumps for you OP! Good Luck!!

JamesCracknelsBugle · 21/12/2020 03:18

Could you phone up some of the stores and check their in-store stock and post on here which stores have it? Then perhaps someone in that vicinity can pick it up for you?

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 21/12/2020 03:19

Stocking fillers are what retail call small gifts you can give to anyone.

FC is not held to ransom and does not have to prove himself, you have to believe. Has she wrote to him with this request?
I personally would include a note and £10 to choose a new headband if she has but if she has only told you I wouldn’t.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/12/2020 03:27

We went and showed DD the international space station passing overhead one year. That worked well.

No headband I'm afraid but you could try the philosophical approach. Originally a nonsense justification for the existence of evil and lack of miracles all over the shop. Proof belies faith. For Santa to be a magical thing requires faith. Any proof removes faith and therefore... proof belies faith. Santa ceases to exist. Poof. Killed by logic.

No practical help but a better image, I did an image search but it only came up with 'out of stock'

It might be out of stock online and in store information isn’t available so you could try calling up your local John Lewis stores and give them the product code? They might be able to order it in for you. Or they can tell you which store it is available in.

DiscoNapper · 21/12/2020 04:19

You could also download the catch Santa AR app for Christmas Day. Say you'll set up a camera on Christmas Eve and then show her the footage if Santa in your house in the morning.

sashh · 21/12/2020 04:23

Could you write a letter, include the picture but say santa only had one and he's given it to another little girl because she isn't getting any other presents / is in hospital / didn't lose the last headband?

Harriedharriet · 21/12/2020 04:36

@LostInTheColonies

You need to watch this with her🎄 🎅
That is great!
RightYesButNo · 21/12/2020 04:46

Could you tell her Mr Swan was eaten by Mr Fox as it’s all part of the Circle of Life? Just like the Lion King, but with more English countryside? As this appears to be their “fancy” band this year. www.johnlewis.com/powder-mr-fox-embroidery-sequin-detail-velvet-headband-damson-multi/p5130419

She probably already knows he’s not real and is looking for a way to let you down gently. I saw John Lewis do a ‘make your own’ hairband kit which you could get along with a note from Santa explaining they can’t make the old one in any case..

Toomanycats99 · 21/12/2020 04:57

I think my 9yo has sussed it. She whispered to her selves last night and said she has asked them to do something and that's how she will know they are real......she won't tell me!

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2020 05:00

It’s 21st Dec . .... everything is already made. Packed avd loaded on the sleigh. She has missed the deadline for last orders I’m afraid.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 21/12/2020 05:11

FYI @samqueens , they're made by a company called Powder, so you could get in with them?

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/12/2020 05:38

I would go with a note from Santa. Ask a friend or neighbour to write it saying the elves have finished making all the presents now. But he has found x one and thought she would like it as it matches x dress / skirt or the colour of her hair / eyes etc.

There’s a yellow toucan one on eBay btw.

didofido · 21/12/2020 06:16

My big brother devised a test to discover how Father Christmas came in.
We stretched a cotton thread across the doorway, another across the window, and a third across the chimney - it was an old house with bedroom fireplaces.
Next morning only the chimney cotton was broken! Proof!!
I would point out that the door cotton was about an inch from the floor...

Lilybeanbag · 21/12/2020 06:26

My DM made me write a letter to FC when I was on the cusp of not believing that I think basically questioned his existence and demanded a pony etc.
She made me seal it in an envelope and decorate it for Xmas eve.
Next day I ran to see if said letter had been read... but it was still there. DM suggested I open it to check inside and my letter was GONE! Replaced with a typed, tea stained reply and filled with glitter. Shed steamed open the envelope and resealed it but the switcharoo kept me believing until 2 years afterwards when my wonderful parents came home from an Xmas eve drinks party and accidentally pulled their wardrobe over getting pressie sacks out.
Will repeat with my kids tho as it felt like genuine magic at the time!

CrotchBurn · 21/12/2020 06:39

For fucks sake could you all stop giving the OP sickly twee excuses to come up with, I'm sure she can figure that out like an adult.

She's asking if anyone has this headband and wants to sell it.

Xmasdinnervwpolo · 21/12/2020 06:45

Santa does not give into the demands of children who dare to question his existence.

Just buy one of those apps that puts a picture of Santa in your photos. I did that last year and my kids still day now that I have photo evidence of Santa. Grin

letsgomaths · 21/12/2020 06:57

@didofido Had your brother read "The Knowhow Book of Spycraft", which described tricks like that, including tying strings across doorways?

When I was six or seven, someone tried to persuade us that Santa was visiting the garden, and offering sleigh rides to the children; but there might still be unwrapped presents in it, so our eyes would be covered. One at a time, we were blindfolded, and pushed round the garden in the wheelbarrow, to the sound of sleigh bells. It didn't really convince me, but it was great fun!
