To ask if your child had headache as a covid symptom, how bad was it?

Several kids in DS's school who have had covid only had a headache as a symptom. I know it's not on the symptom checklist but because of the experiences of the kids at school, twice now we have tested DS when he's had a headache and he's been negative. Both times the headache was mild.

He said his head hurt again tonight , again mild, not enough to make him cry or upset or anything and he's gone straight back to bed fine with a bit of calpol.

Do we get him tested again? I feel like I'm wasting tests/being overcautious but like I say, knowing the symptoms of the kids at school, I'm just trying to do the right thing. Has anyone's child had a covid headache - is it significantly different to a normal headache?

My son had a severe headache and photophobia (aversion to light) along with high temperature, cough, painful breathing. When he was well enough to eat he couldn't taste anything. His first symptom was a dry cough, not headache. If you are getting worried about every little headache then yes you are probably being unreasonable. He's 12. I think younger children are less likely to suffer as badly.

My son complained of a headache but was continuing mostly as normal playing computer etc however the next evening he had a temp of 40 which lasted all of three hours! The NHS counted our isolation from the previous day, from the headache and I got the impression headache was a fairly usual first presentation from this.

I had a crushing headache that wouldn't go with painkillers as quite an early symptom. My DS also had a headache as pretty much the only symptom. Unfortunately for kids it seems that the symptoms are identical to all minor viruses.

I should add he had a positive test result

DS is not a child he was 20yrs earlier in the year when he caught COVID 19. He started with the mother of all headaches for about a week, it seem to subside for about a week and then came back again with a temperature hitting 40 degrees, diarrhoea and one episode of fainting.

At the time of the headaches starting he was coming up to finishing his degree course so reading, studying a lot and we thought it was that and booked him an eye test. Obviously absolutely worth considering but how wrong we were!

DD11 had a headache in the morning but felt well enough for school. By pick up she was miserable and had a temp. Next morning the temp disappeared without medicine and she tested positive. Her headache lasted a few days but she was well enough for home schooling whilst isolating.
