I know that on the whole, 2020 has been an absolute shit show, but I was thinking recently that our family could maybe try and write down a few things that have been positive out of 2020 to take the focus off of how shit its been on the whole.

Now theres no Christmas, im thinking that maybe its something we could do here?

Im trying to concentrate on being thankful.

firstly, everyone I know and love is currently safe from Covid.

secondly, I have a warm home.
thirdly, theres food to eat.
fourthly, our family has actually managed to have time together, usually work keeps us apart too long. its been nice in a way.
fifth, i managed to lose 6 stone this year, im about halfway to my goal weight, and I am slowly regaining my health, which im really thankful for.
sixth, I would say im really surprised by the kindness a lot of people are displaying to eachother in real life right now.

I bought a house. We were in a crappy rental that was cramped and me and DH managed to get a really nice, brand new house in a rural location.

We had a second child in October and his arrival has been the catalyst we needed to start the process of selling the house and moving to an area we really want to be.
We're excited about new beginnings and new opportunities for our kids, even if covid is still around.

6 stone weight loss is very impressive! Well done. Which method are you using?

LuaDipa · 20/12/2020 13:06

Well done on the weight loss, that is a fantastic achievement.

  • Our entire family has made it through this year safe and well.
  • While we are sad not to have seen our extended family, it has been nice to spend more time with dh and kids. I think we have seen each other more this year than we have throughout our entire marriage. It’s been nice to have the time to reconnect.

Great thread op.

MerlotChiantiMontepulicano · 20/12/2020 13:21

Well done everyone.

  • I got a job that's perfect in terms of hours and location after 4.5 years as a sahm.
  • DH was promoted and likely to be promoted again next year.
  • DS started school, adores it and is making so much progress. He got an EHCP awarded in March and got a place at a school with a speech and language unit. For the first time in about 2.5 years I don't feel so desperately worried about him.
  • we did manage one fantastic holiday in the summer, in the UK, but I think the best holiday we've had with DS.
Nottherealslimshady · 20/12/2020 13:28

We're 5 months pregnant with a healthy, feisty little baby.

ChickenNugget86 · 20/12/2020 15:47

I had my first baby so he's kept me going during this shit show of a year!

I've been able to avoid toxic family and my in laws so mentally feel better.

I'm a huge Liverpool fan and finally got to see them win the league.

I have lost 2 stone and have started walking a lot more so feel much fitter.

  • I got married to the absolute love of my life (cliché, I know!), where we are the rules were 100 people, and we had 83 on our list. The weather was BEAUTIFUL, and we had a perfect day, and danced until the early hours. Everything was perfect too, covid wise. Not a single person infected!
  • everyone that we love is healthy
  • put deposit down for our new home (move is not until 2021)
  • had a lovely holiday (not abroad, but still grateful!)

6 stone Shock

Ladyface · 20/12/2020 18:59

My dd and I got Covid and recovered.
We adopted a cat and he has brought us all so much joy.
I have finally escaped my awful boss and got a new job!

Holothane · 20/12/2020 19:02

My beloved husband is safe my in-laws are safe
Hopefully next year will be the end of my gyne pain
New laminate flooring we’re saving up so we don’t have to keep cleaning our carpets due to the mobility scooter being dragged in and out.

CrotchBurn · 20/12/2020 19:11

I paid off all my debt
Broke through in my field (arts)
I had a nervous breakdown and I was sectioned in the summer. However i consider this a good thing: I hit rock bottom and now I know I can handle anything
I made peace with a difficult decision that I finally made after four years of turmoil
I got in complete control of my administrative and financial life

Washimal · 20/12/2020 19:18

We both still have jobs, and they are jobs we really love which I think makes us particularly lucky. DH also got a promotion a few months ago.

We adopted a cat, who we are all completely smitten with.

Being at home together while schools were closed brought DD and DS so much closer to one another, although it was shit in so many ways, seeing them bond has been amazing.

All the people I know who has had covid (which is quite a few people due to my job) have survived, although a couple are still struggling with symptoms a few months on they are improving gradually.

Covid has made my work busier and without a doubt it has been stressful but we have also laughed a lot, and it has really made us pull together as a team. There are a couple of people at work I now consider to be close friends who prior to the first lockdown were only acquaintances. I'm not sure if we would have bonded in that way if it weren't for this shared experience.

We have a nice house with plenty of space, in an area we love with a genuine sense of community, and enough money to live comfortably and give us a feeling of security. I was grateful for those things before, but I think that the pandemic has made me appreciate them even more.

TrickorTreacle · 20/12/2020 19:25

There has been so much negativity on MN during covid, so I'm always grateful for threads like the OP's.

The pluses for me this year is being in one of the must secure jobs (NHS). Because I have spent less money, I have bought a few household items that I have been after for a while e.g. a Shark vacuum.

I still prefer the old way of life though like going out and going on holiday (not abroad), so I'll welcome that with open arms but I won't welcome the "new normal".

ExpectingaMiracle · 20/12/2020 21:41

After 2 operations and numerous procedures due to endometriosis and PCOS and being told I may never have children , Im expecting a healthy baby girl. 31 weeks today :)
