Can anybody recommend an escape proof dog harness?

Posting here for traffic. I've got a 9 month old female dog called roxy. Pug X staffy mix, weighs just over 11kg. She's been going through a phase of pulling and crying every time I leave the room ( another story), she has had a few sessions with a trainer but is getting better. in the meantime she needs a different harness. Currently wears a K9 Julias harness, however tight/ fitted she wears it, she has managed to get out it. Can anybody recommend a good harness?

Depending on how you dog is getting free you may get away with a better fitting Y harness like the Perfect Fit (which also doesn't restrict shoulder movement like the Julius K9), but Harnesses with an extra girth strap are escape proof as they can't reverse out.

I have a pug and got the Julius harness ( got it fitted too). He was out of it in minutes. Ruffwear or the Rabbitgoo dog harness. I got the Rabbitgoo one which he can't get out of. It has two lead points, one at front and one on his back. The front part prevents pulling and it's much better and kinder to the dog. He can't get out the Rabbitgoo one ( and was cheaper than the Julius). The Ruffwear is similar design.
I posted the issues on a dog page and so many people said their dogs could get out of the Julius K9 one. Depends on shape of your dog, but don't think they are great for stockier breed dogs.

I got a Mekuti for my lab. It also trains them not to pull if you follow some simple instructions. My lab once pulled me all the way across the road and wrapped me round a lamppost on the other side. She always walks by my side now.

Harnesses are built for pulling, so if this is for walking your dog I’d suggest using a slip lead instead.

We used to have my dog on a harness and she’d pull like no tomorrow, since moving her to a slip and training her on it, she now trots alongside me like an angel!

Another vote for the Perfect Fit with the added bonus that it has front and back D ring attachments so you can use different connections for different things, eg) attach the lead to the front of the harness when you want nice loose lead walking and train it always like this, clip on the back when your dog can have a bit more freedom to sniff/pull slightly.

Personally wouldn't use a slip lead on a dog because of potential damage to trachea. The Ruffwear and Rabbitgoo harnesses have front clips on the chest area that redirect the dog and stop pulling. Mine stopped on the Rabbitgoo.

Ruffwear webmaster, not a hope in hell of getting out, but I reckon mine could get out of the front range given a chance and the will to do so! (I have both type of harness) they're not cheap however his webmasters have lasted 6 years each!

I have pugs and they have never escaped from their harness. I have looked at the K9 Julia’s and it doesn’t look very good, there is nothing over the chest area other than a strap.

I usually buy Puppia harnesses, this type.

We use a ruffwear harness, its brilliant, our dog hasn’t got out of his, the upstairs neighbours jack russell is an escape artist and its the only harness he hasn’t been able to escape from.

Nobby harness. You can get on the internet but they are much more reasonably priced than the alternatives above and utterly escape proof. How they haven’t caught on, I don’t know.

Our dog sometimes pulls if we use a collar, he doesn’t pull at all with a harness. He can also get collars off at the appropriate tightness.

We use a Lupi, there is absolutely no way to wriggle out of it and it stops my 35kg dog pulling.

Same. The harness seems to curb any temptation to pull. All the collars we have tried seem to stretch or loosen. With the harness DDog is more comfortable and happier on her walks and so are we.

My dog isn"t an escape artist but I rate the EzyDog chestplate harness. It doesn't need to go over the head to be put on so my dog will tolerate it. They seem to last and stand up to washing.

Perfect fit and Ruffwear are both great. Ruffwear is eyewateringly expensive imo but comes with a good guarantee apparently.

I bought an indi-dog vari fit harness with a built in houdini strap which is an extra strap behind the chest so they can't wiggle out indi-dog.co.uk/dog-harnesses/sized-adjustable-dog-puppy-harness It's also got a front ring which is essential for pullers so you can use a double ended lead.

Have to say although the harness is brilliant, their customer service is beyond appalling and they got themselves into a right state back in the summer with things taking 7 weeks to arrive. They do seem to be a bit more back on track now though.

Perfect fit. Great for hard to fit dogs. I've never yet had a dog escape from one.

Please don't use a slip lead on a pug x who may already have airway issues.

I have a Huskie and agree with pp ruffware are the best. My Huskie can get out of every other type of harness or collar that I've tried and they can handle a Huskie determined to get a squirrel

Google Houdini harness. We have a lurcher and had a harness made to fit. It has an extra strap around the tummy near the tail end and she's never escaped it!
