To ask you to tell me to pull myself together

Originally booked Christmas break to rural cottage in Wales in February from 21-28 Dec. Due to new rules and Welsh lockdown being implemented we were only able to go for the Christmas bubble dates of 23-27 Dec. Now Wales is being put into Tier 4. So this is the end of our Christmas cottage break?

I'm gutted. I've followed all the rules, as have most. The month long lockdown in November was to 'save Christmas'. We are not mixing households...1 household, but always book a cottage break in rural Wales for Christmas.

I know so many other people have had plans cancelled and it could be so much worse but I'm at the point where I can feel myself thinking 'what is the point?' I had a big birthday this year, all plans cancelled but always held on to the view of 'as long as we go away for Christmas that's more important'

Tell me to suck it up, give me a reality check please as I just wanna cry.

Phone them. You might still be able to go depending on how many people there were.

Royalbloo · 19/12/2020 23:06

You didn't say how many families/bubbles so you might still be able to do a smaller version?

Suzi888 · 19/12/2020 23:06

I’m with Royalbloo, telephone them and ask.

LonelyDadBod · 19/12/2020 23:12

Suck it up. I had four months completely by myself. Managed to form a ‘bubble’ over the past three months, but alas no Christmas invite. I will be spending the next two or three weeks by myself.
Be thankful for what you’ve got. Some people would bend over backwards to trade places for a close family and kids.

EatAFajita · 19/12/2020 23:22

Thanks for your replies. It was just our 1 household renting a rural cottage, getting away from it all etc. I don't think we are allowed to travel there as Wales is going into full lockdown.

@LonelyDadBod I'm so sorry to hear that. I know I'm lucky to have my kids. I truly am, I'm just feeling sorry for myself. My parents live abroad but I did manage to see them at the start of the year. I hope you are ok.

Well you did say - suck it up buttercup! It's a few days away at Christmas , nothing life changing . if you have a roof over your head, heating , food on the table and (some ) family around you , you are doing as well if not better than most.

Hoppyhops · 19/12/2020 23:26

@EatAFajita I’m in Wales and we’re in full lockdown from midnight. The guidance is that accommodation is only available for exceptional circumstances (key workers etc.) so I don’t think you’ll be able to come. Even if you could, everything is closed and the weather here is shit at the moment so you haven’t missed much, if that’s any comfort to you?

EatAFajita · 19/12/2020 23:36

@Mydogmylife I need that thank you. Bit of tough love, and you are so right. I may still shed a few tears into my bucks fizz though....

@Hoppyhops thank you for confirming. Tbh we are used to the weather in Wales, usually go a couple of times a year. I find it beautiful and as soon as I see the mountainous views I feel relaxed. We only usually venture out for walks as kids love it. However I'll take that bit of comfort, thank you.

Thank you to all that have replied to me. Sometimes its just good to get those feelings out. I'm going to give a very un mumsnet x
