AIBU to think January is going to be really bloody hard?

I’m already slightly panicking about Jan, it’s a difficult, dark month anyway. No way I can escape to sunnier climes at the moment now either but beginning to dawn on me that, despite the vaccine, it’s going to be a very, very long haul to get anywhere near normal again. Especially with new variants appearing that they clearly don’t know anything about. My mental health is just about to take a nose-dive. I literally haven’t been seeing anyone since April-ish, trying to follow the rules but really can’t continue like this. There doesn’t seem an end in sight. Have tried to be very upbeat and dat by day but dreading the after Xmas blues....I’m hoping some of you lovely mumsneters might have more optimism?

Op I hear you I'm too dreading it but trying to take a positive spin...I'm going to focus on dry January, never done it before and thought this year is the perfect opportunity with not going anywhere! I'm going to take up yoga alongside my normal home workouts and read.

Have a look at getting a good gratitude journal some great ones on Amazon and writing daily this will really help you zone in on the positives around you

@MrsOmelette

But some SAD light bulbs for every light in your house, they are much cheaper than they used to be. I was advised to by my psychiatric nurse.
You've just reminded me, I bought a 'cool white' bulb for my reading lamp and it works as a SAD light because its slightly blue.

Do you have a garden or a small space to put a plant pot or two? If so get some bulbs in, nothing like bulbs coming up to restore a fatigued spirit!
I love that towards the end of January life to come back from its deep sleep and spring is on its way. Nights start to draw out and mornings slowly start to get lighter.
It has been and will still be hard, but i am optimistic that things will start to look less gloomy by mid January Smile

I've just clicked on this thread because i feel the same as you OP.

But I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to all those posting positive thoughts - it really does make a difference and has given me some good ideas Smile

Yes, I've just volunteered to help out at our local 'big vaccination centre.' I think if I feel like I'm actually doing something to get this over with rather than just sitting around waiting for others I'll feel better.

Meh, yes it will be tough but Jan always is. Roll on Feb!

Poorlykitten · 21/12/2020 16:09

@grassisjeweled I’m not sure Feb will be much better...

Its my 40th birthday in January. Going to arrange a virtual meet up with friends - not much else I can do!
