Can my DF in tier 4 visit his support bubble in tier 2?

lm1409 · 19/12/2020 20:40

Like everyone else I'm confused! My DF is a single adult and is living alone in a tier 4 area. None of his family lives nearby so we are his support bubble. We live in a tier 2 area. Can he still visit us? Can we visit him? He is an OAP, is physically fit and well but struggles mentally with loneliness and feeling isolated.

Yes, support bubbles are unaffected by the new ruling.

YuletidePizza · 19/12/2020 20:45

Yes

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 19/12/2020 20:47

Not sure. Tier 4 are not supposed to leave Tier 4, someone asked on the local page if they could work in Tier 2 and the councillor said no.

lemonsquashie · 20/12/2020 07:32

Yes. He needs the day with his family.

joystir59 · 20/12/2020 07:33

I'm not sure. Perhaps read the official guidance for tier 4

santasmincepie · 20/12/2020 07:40

Yes. There are exemptions for support bubbles, including overnight stays

Cheeseboardandmincepies · 20/12/2020 07:44

No travel in or out of tier 4 so no.

yearinyearout · 20/12/2020 07:46

If you live in a Tier 4 area, you must follow the rules below from Sunday 20 December. This means that you cannot meet other people indoors, including over the Christmas period, unless you live with them, or they are part of your existing support bubble. Outdoors, you can only meet one person from another household. These rules will not be relaxed for Christmas.

If you're his support bubble then yes it's fine

Dishwashersaurous · 20/12/2020 07:47

Support bubble counts as one household. So yes

moomin11 · 20/12/2020 07:49

Yes if you have formed a support bubble with him Smile

Biker47 · 20/12/2020 07:52

Fortunately there's no law to stop travel between any areas in England.

movingonup20 · 20/12/2020 08:02

He need s to live by tier 4 rules even if with you, which means you also have to follow them eg no eating out, nobody in your garden, no other guests at Christmas etc

This is from the Gov website about traveling to/from Tier 4:

Travelling out of a tier 4 area
You must stay at home and not leave your Tier 4 area, other than for legally permitted reasons such as:

travel to work where you cannot work from home
travel to education and for caring responsibilities
visit those in your support bubble - or your childcare bubble for childcare
attend hospital, GP and other medical appointments or visits where you have had an accident or are concerned about your health
The full list of exceptions will be published in the Regulations.

Travelling to a tier 4 area from a tier 1, 2 or 3 area
You should not travel into a Tier 4 area from another part of the UK, other than for reasons such as:

travel to work where you cannot work from home
travel to education and for caring responsibilities
to visit those in your support bubble - or your childcare bubble for childcare
to attend hospital, GP and other medical appointments or visits where you have had an accident or are concerned about your health

Yes, support bubbles are exempt from
Tier 4 measures.

Thanks everyone for your advice in helping us understand the new measures. Keep safe everyone!

Yes. Support bubbles are an exception to the system. They ask you to try to find a local support bubble in the same tier but you do not have to because obviously the government cannot dictate where your closest friends/family live and they have said that every person who lives alone can have a support bubble (not just those lucky enough to have local family.

So yes you can.

Thankfully the wording has been changed in the guidance now and is very clear:

You are permitted to leave your home to visit your support bubble (and to stay overnight with them).

cautiouscovidity · 21/12/2020 08:31

Yes if you're both in England (or possibly Wales / NI). I don't think Nicola Sturgeon is letting anyone cross the border to Scotland under any circumstances though.
