To be too scared to have a shower.

I had keyhole surgery on Wednesday to remove my gallbladder.

I came home the same day but I've struggled with pain and lack of sleep. The one thing I've been putting off is going for a shower and changing the dressing.

I don't know why but I'm terrified. I'm scared of getting in and out. I'm scared of seeing my wounds. What if they open? What if it hurts like hell?

I know IABU and just looking for some reassurance really ☹

They will be tiny and the chances of them reopening at this stage will be very, very small indeed. Mine did but it was the same night as the surgery and because they ducked it up when they applied the dressing wrong. it was easily resolved with a dressing and it healed very quickly like a small cut would.

When the surgeon took off the bandages after my throat surgery I refused to look. I was facing a lifetime of a huge scar around my neck. He and my husband insisted I really did need to look in the mirror. It was so much less than what I had built up in my mind.

Well done op. I was the same after my c section. Eventually plucked up the courage to go into the loo and have a look. I was in hospital for a month after and it was in the second week, so I pulled my nightshirt up to habe a look and another patient walked in as I was standing in my pants looking in the mirror. She proper gave me the side eye too. 😂

This is one of my greatest fears, I faint very easily with anything medical related.

My husband had a mole removed from a butt cheek and our 9 year old DD had to change the dressings for him...

When I was a teen and had my appendix out I was also paranoid about the bandage and wound getting wet (and wasn't ready to see it) so I used microtape to stick a nappy bag over the bandage and then showered carefully to try and avoid getting that bit wet. Worked a treat. And when I did see the scar, it really wasn't that bad at all.
