To be proper pissed off with these rule breakers?

With ever changing rules and advice I'm sure everyone has broken the 'rules' at some point of the other but I've heard of some INSANE ones. Someone we know is planning a holiday away over Xmas to a country that requires a covid test prior to arrival but the family travelling have already had NHS tests done (no symptoms!) and are getting a family friend to provide a covid-free "certificate" dated weeks after their initial test. They'll go on holiday and not have to quarantine when they're back as said country is on the travel corridor list.

How does any of this make sense?

Anyone else got any insane rule breaking to share?

Thats ridiculous.

I can't get annoyed at mild rule breaking, people have different circumstances and I don't like to judge - my dad got questioned during the big lockdown for taking my kids out, little did they know my son has additional needs and he was taking the siblings out because DS1 was having a huge aggressive meltdown and throwing things and generally making it unsafe for the younger siblings - so I understand stuff like that. But yes the one in your OP absolutely does take the piss.

nosswith · 19/12/2020 10:55

My anger is firstly over the Prime Minister condoning behaviour such as Dominic Cummings and Robert Jenrick to begin with.

I would have the Australian approach that quarantine is in a hotel once you return, no leaving the hotel room.

PinkiOcelot · 19/12/2020 10:58

So we can just make a certificate on our computer and print it off? Surely they’ll need more than that.
Some people are just selfish arse holes.

forwardsbackwardsrebound · 19/12/2020 11:09

That's not really breaking the rules though is it - I thought you meant they were popping round their mum's house for a pina colada.

What they are doing is illegal and they could be a lot of trouble, surely?

RelightMyPfizer · 19/12/2020 11:17

How will that be linked to their passport? That is what you have to get done by the centre

forwardsbackwardsrebound · 19/12/2020 11:31

*sorry meant "That's not just breaking the rules though is it..."

GlummyMcGlummerson · 19/12/2020 11:33

I strongly suspect that the system is much tighter than that and they'll very much be caught out

InTheDrunkTank · 19/12/2020 11:38

That's bloody ridiculous. I don't mind mild rule breaking (e.g. I have friends who are spending Christmas with 4 households but all four households are completely isolating for two weeks - getting food delivered, not even exercising outside. I can't get annoyed about that). The people who break the rules in a way they know is risky is bloody annoying.

BillysMyBunny · 19/12/2020 11:38

Just because they’re planning to use outdated test results and get a friend to knock up a certificate doesn’t mean it will actually work and they will be able to get into the country for which they’ve planned their holiday. It doesn’t make sense because it probably doesn’t work.

If it’s a country within which we have a travel corridor and therefore they don’t need to quarantine on return then that’s an issue with the government’s decision making/ guidelines around travel and not with the family breaking any rules so not sure what your point there is?

StCharlotte · 19/12/2020 11:42

I accept most of us have broken the rules whether by accident or design but I'm so tired of the "flagrant flouters". The worst offenders that I know are a neighbouring family with young adult children where the father is a paramedic. Lockdown? What lockdown?

And now the dad has tested positive. So son's girlfriend has moved in for the duration (I know!) but they're still leaving the house together.

I despair I really do.

SpringSunshineandTulips · 19/12/2020 11:44

The only rule breaking I know of is kids going out during the time they are meant to be isolating. I know of at least 3 going on walks and going to kids activities (swimming etc)

Christmasbeach · 19/12/2020 11:48

I’m wondering if I should report this one (and would the authorities do anything?!):

The child has to isolate as their teacher has covid. The family is still going to visit family 7 hours away (will have to stop at various services at a minimum) for Xmas (before the isolation window is up). The family are a bunch of covid conspiracies as well as selfish arseholes in general.

InTheDrunkTank · 19/12/2020 11:50

I also hate the completely pointless rule breakers. A neighbour was meant to be isolating while waiting for a test result I passed her on the street and she said 'oh I know I shouldn't be out but I'm only going to get some walnuts'. In what situation is a packet of bloody walnuts vital??!

Glitterblue · 19/12/2020 12:01

No wonder this is spreading if people are behaving like this.

I just read this morning that a high school local to us has a big covid outbreak and 200 kids self isolating - because they've been having house parties!! We are in tier 3 and have been in a local lockdown for 3 months.

yeOldeTrout · 19/12/2020 12:09

I wonder why people trust you with this information, OP.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 19/12/2020 12:12

My next door neighbours had private COVID tests because they were due to fly. Neither had any symptoms but to their surprise hers came back positive

Instead of isolating and cancelling the trip they got another one done which was negative and told everyone the first was wrong and must have been a false positive.
Stupid government. Stupid tests. Riddled with false results. Obviously neighbour knows best.

Well maybe it was wrong
Or maybe she had been positive and the second one was negative because it was a few days later....

Apparently they can get away with not declaring the initial positive as it was private so they are getting on the plane.

Better hope it was a false positive eh and that he is not brewing it up right now and breathing it out on the long haul flight.

GintyMcGinty · 19/12/2020 12:14

Law breaking bothers me.

Rule breaking or advice stretching doesn't.
