Meeting up with someone - Covid symptoms

DH and I had arranged to meet my B & SIL tomorrow, for a socially distanced walk somewhere in the country.

However last night we got a text off BIL to say he has Covid symptoms and is awaiting test results.

We have cancelled them, which I feel dreadful about as we haven't seen them since early March. Our children were really looking forward to seeing each other again.

I can't help but think we could have met them, with it being outside? If we didn't hug or anything?

We have no plans to see them now but I feel a bit miffed really.

Was I BU to cancel or would others have carried on with the arrangement as planned? There would have been no physical interaction or meeting indoors.

I think it’s an unnecessary risk and when you when covid symptoms you’re supposed to isolate and not go on walks or meet people. That’s kind of the point of isolating.

You can rearrange can't you? He may get a negative result from the test in which case you could fit in a walk over the Christmas period? Results are surprisingly quick. Next day for my dh when randomly tested at work.

It's disappointing but wait for the results and then proceed. Hope your bro feels better soon.

No, as soon as my son tested we all went into strict isolation until results came back. He was positive.
We already knew this, but we were also given the rules again when he took the test (not sure if this is also given out with home tests) .

It worries me that you've even asked what others would do.

They aren't even allowed out the house.

YANBU for making the choice you did. Sometimes the right choice feels tough though.

The fact that this a question that needs to be asked, shows why the country is still up shit creek

dontgobaconmyheart · 19/12/2020 11:06

This is plainly ridiculous. All involved are BU if they'd have contemplated meeting at all or leaving the house with symptoms awaiting results. The fact that isn't a given is disturbing. Good that you cancelled OP but my goodness. I hope he assumed it was a given it was off when he messaged with the news, I would just have taken it to mean it's cancelled as part and parcel.

Singinghollybob · 19/12/2020 12:03

Wow, how is this a serious question?

I don’t understand this thread.

If you have symptoms - you must self isolate whilst you await your test results.

This means that he is unable to leave his house till he gets an all clear.

What is the question here?
