Are these foils bad and can they be fixed?!

I paid £75 for a full head of foils yesterday as I wanted to lighten up my hair a bit. I said I didn't want them to look stripey or for it be too unnatural but this is what I ended up with.

I really don't like it, I think it's stripey, it's not blended in, parts around the hairline are very harsh / the highlight starts very abruptly. Then I was in the salon it looked ok, it's when you look closer you notice all the issues!

I have already spoken with them and sent photos and they have asked me to come back in a couple of days and they will "fix" with no charge. But what should I be expecting them to do with this?! I want them blended in somehow, I don't want to look like someone has literally just drawn some highlighted stripes on my head!

They are a good salon, I have used them before (although not for colouring), they have very good examples of their work on Facebook and Instagram so I am not sure why mine has gone go crap?! The only things I noticed was that it was the same colour used for all the highlights and they didn't use a toner but that might be normal?

Any hairdressers on here give me any ideas on how they can fix this?

The picture is balayage, not highlights. See someone who’s good at balayage - with some artful painting a root smudge, you’ll be closer.

I have what you were aiming for. My hairdresser keep a a top t section darker to avoid the stripy look and uses a blonde and a caramel highlight underneath (done every 2nd colour appointment) then a toner over other hair to hide the greys.

Sorry yours has buggered it up.

Oblomov20 · 19/12/2020 14:44

Goodness, that is bad. Sorry. Hope you get it sorted.

Slothkin · 19/12/2020 15:30

OP if it helps I had absolutely terrible highlights earlier this year - my hair is much darker than yours and I looked like a badger. My usual hairdresser has brushed through a mix of semi-permanent colours to blend it all through and I’ve almost ended up with the look I wanted in the first place! If you can’t get a refund out of the salon I’d definitely suggest asking for something similar and then going elsewhere in the new year.

I think taking a photo of wavy hair when you have straight hair is always a mistake. You need to find a photo with straight hair with the finish you want.

I may be in the minority but I think it looks lovely

PinkSpring · 19/12/2020 16:07

It wasn't the style I wanted, it was the colouring. I even explained I knew that the hair type was different so I wasn't expecting it to be exactly the same - but what I have is NOTHING like it

Hairdresser here. The inspiration picture you showed is a balayage. A full head of highlights would never achieve that. Regardless, the highlights are far too thick and the foils have not been placed correctly. I would be ashamed to let a client leave with highlights so far from the scalp.
To rectify the situation I would suggest a root drag and babylights/ lowlights.

Another hairdresser commenting:

I wouldn’t let her try to correct it, to be honest as I suspect she’ll make it worse. I’d ask for a refund because she hasn’t given you what was agreed which is a root stretch with balayage highlights.

The fact that she gave you a full head of badly done foil highlights suggests to me that she has no experience in doing balayage (which is always done freehand (not folded foils) and is something that takes great skill and practice to do well).

If she starts applying more bleach foils, you’re likely to end up with dry, frizzy hair. You’re also likely to get her co-workers telling you it’s not that bad really! So you’ll need to be firm.

You need a root shadow and low lights
