AIBU to pay 200.00 extra for new Xbox

Hey my DS ( 13 ) wanted the new Xbox, I didn’t manage to get hold of one at all. So I put the money in a card for him so we could purchase it after Xmas.
However it now turns out I can not spend Xmas day with him as his sister age 7 is in hospital. Someone locally is selling one but for a 200.00 profit which I can collect tomorrow.
Would you just suck it up and buy it for more despite that it makes me made that people do it !!! His birthday is the same week and I’m not even sure right now If I can be there for that.

I've been checking sites every day and signed up to a stock checker site.
It came up today that Amazon has the X on stock. Went in and it let me add to basket then said out of stock. Tried it again and it let me order it. It has seemingly been dispatched and should be with me tomorrow.
It's worth keeping checking and trying to add to basket even if it says out of stock

Totallylostnow · 18/12/2020 22:12

If he has an Xbox already keep checking on the online store - we got one last week all day they were on site then off then back on

SomelikeitHoth · 18/12/2020 22:15

Just wait a while. Don't throw away £200. Surely he can understand

gamerchick · 18/12/2020 22:18

NO NO don't do it. New machines are not worth the money they cost at retail at launch. Wait a while.

I personally wait at least 6 months after launch. They're not worth it.. a year is preferable.

Why pay more just to do the testing job and sniff out all the bugs?

Heyahun · 18/12/2020 22:22

Don’t do it. You won’t even get any warranty or receipt if anything goes wrong with it!!
Just wait

CakeRequired · 18/12/2020 22:22

Don't please. Save your money and buy one in the new year. You could be ripped off by this person.

I hope your daughter gets better soon.

Sweettea1 · 18/12/2020 22:39

I wouldn't an really hope others don't I wouldn't want to line the pockets of greedy selfish f##kers. Let them keep their consoles disappointed that they can't make any money on them. Am sure your son will understand the situation and along as he knows he's defdo getting one ASAP he will be happy. My ds 12 is a gamer an hasn't asked for it this year he said no point as alot of his friends aren't getting one yet so he'd have no one to play with. But has asked for one for his bday in July

Sweettea1 · 18/12/2020 22:42

Give him the 200 as extra to buy games with once he has it.

HitthatroadJack · 18/12/2020 22:48

@Mycircusmymonkey

I wouldn’t only on the basis that if there is a fault you may not be able to return it to a shop for an exchange.
agreed

People selling non-essential items for a profit? I can't get annoyed about it, but I wouldn't let them make a profit from me Grin
So I genuinely wouldn't.

Is he really going to be completely alone on Christmas Day?
I would have been more tempted to get him invited by friends he likes.

HitthatroadJack · 18/12/2020 22:50

I wouldn't want to line the pockets of greedy selfish f##kers.

In fairness, that includes every retailer. They are not selling xbox or PS as a charitable gesture... As long as it's nothing essential like baby formula, fair enough to make a profit. It's not like they stole the shipments the minute they landed in the UK.

AgeLikeWine · 18/12/2020 23:02

No.

I have no objection to people selling non-essential items or tickets for more than face value when demand exceeds supply. Good luck to them, and more fool those who are prepared to pay.

But I would never pay an inflated price for an Xbox or a concert ticket myself. I just couldn’t. I’d rather go without.

BuntysTwinkle · 18/12/2020 23:09

How about spending the £200 on games? No, he can't play them right away but it's something to open and look forward to doing - like people who get experience gifts.

But if you have enough money that you won't miss the £200 then why not.

GarytheRedNosedUnicorn · 18/12/2020 23:14

Didn’t you just buy a laptop for your niece, that your sister rejected? Cant you use that money?

GarytheRedNosedUnicorn · 18/12/2020 23:19

And won’t you be having your baby in the next week or so? I’m sure DS will understand not having it at this busy time.

TheGoogleMum · 18/12/2020 23:23

Don't encourage these people making profit just for being quick to pre order! There's not much in the way of games out yet anyway I wouldn't effectively throw £200 away when he could just wait a bit

itsasmallworldafterall · 18/12/2020 23:32

Does it have to be the x? The s was in stock a few places when i checked earlier

BertieBotts · 18/12/2020 23:37

My 12yo would understand if I missed Christmas and his birthday due to a sibling in hospital. We've had to postpone his birthday celebrations due to illness before (although nothing that serious).

I'd promise something nice to make it up to him, but not £200 extra for an xbox.

BadLad · 19/12/2020 00:26

Most games drop in price very quickly. I certainly wouldn't buy any recent releases now to play them later. You could go for some accessories to open on the day, such as an extra controller if he's going to need two, but I think that might torment him more than satisfy him.

You do you, but I would never pay over the odds from a scalper either. It's just encouraging them to do it in future.

Whattheactual20201 · 19/12/2020 01:13

Thank you I didn’t in the end, I have left the money in an envelope for him and will
Purchase some other things with the money for him so he has some gifts.

No don't, you'll be screwed too if it's dodgy and doesn't work.

How old is he? Of he's home with Dad whilst you're in hospital with DD could you both put some money aside for some extra treats - take outs etc. whilst you're away?

curlycat · 28/12/2020 10:22

@Whattheactual20201 in stock on Amazon right now. It says unavailable on first page but if you click on it it is in stock
