Sick of long shapeless covid hair

Like a gazilluon orher women, of all ages, in 2020 when hairdressers being open were rarer than hens teeth, I thought.
I Know! I'll grow my hair!
It was a novelty for a while but everybody looks so scruffy ( myself included )
Next time I go to the hairdressers I think I'm tempted to have it all lopped off.
I never thought I would miss Layers
and having hair in an actual style instead of long scruffy, neither here nor there haitstyles that women have now. Anybody else sick of the wurzel gummige look?

I'm definitely an oldie and have had long hair for over 10 years now. Far easier to maintain than short. Never looks like Worzel Gummidge. Tend to wear it up for work and housework etc. Down usually for going out or just chilling.

rosegoldwatcher · 18/12/2020 19:55

Hairdressers have been open but decent ones have waiting lists into February 2021.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/12/2020 20:04

I had my hair cut and coloured w/c 16th March and on 4th July when my hairdresser opened. Every 6 weeks thereafter.

You know those MNet threads where everyone says "you shouldn't tip your hairdresser, blah, blah, blah". Well I always have, hence my hairdresser texts me with the day she reopens to get me in as quickly as possible. Grin.

That is why it pays to tip.

@IPeedInThePool

My hair does not look like a mullet at all I have mid length layers and longish hair I’ve been cutting it for about 2 years
Neither does mine. I am really pleased with it. Amazingly.

I did the ponytail at the top of the forehead and cut it on a slant. Then I did the longer bits by doing another ponytail under the chin (v. attractive) and again cutting on a slant.

I think the trick is making sure that the hair is laying the right way in the ponytail.

MistyMinge2 · 18/12/2020 20:21

Mine is a right state. I had a disastrous haircut in August and and decided I wasn't going back to my hairdresser. Found someone local on Instagram who looks really good and was trying to get an appointment sorted but then boom second bloody lockdown. Now I can't get an appointment with her or anywhere else decent for love nor money.

I think I'm going to treat myself to a Dyson hairdryer with my Christmas money. Maybe then it'll look a little less shit and not take so bloody long to dry.

maryberryslayers · 18/12/2020 20:22

Long hair requires maintenance to keep it nice, not just let grow wild.

Mine is below my boobs and I have it trimmed very regularly so it's sharp and thick across the bottom and a treatment on it so it's silky and in top condition. I wash blow dry and straighten it every other day.

If you just let it grown the ends will be thin and split and it will look awful.

Useruseruserusee · 18/12/2020 20:24

I already had this hair pre-2020 as I am lazy and hate going to the hairdresser. Wear it with confidence!

MaverickDanger · 18/12/2020 20:27

I grew out my pixie with undercut during the first lockdown and then have had a French bob with short fringe since the summer.

It’s already growing out from my last appointment two months ago & looks a bit shapeless. I couldn’t get an appointment before Christmas and will have a newborn in the New Year, so not sure when I will next be able to get it cut.

Luckily the colour doesn’t need doing!

NeonSparkle · 18/12/2020 20:37

Yep I have long hair with a middle parting, I usually have it shaped/layered at the hairdressers but I haven't had it cut since January. I did try (God knows what possesed me) to cut my own hair after watching some YouTube videos thinking 'o I could easily do that myself'
I WAS WRONG! I attempted to do a 'curtain bangs' and massively fucked my hair up as I cut it far too short and it just doesn't lay right. So I'm now too embarrassed to go to a hair dresser Blush so I'm just pining it back until it grows out lol

QVC have Dyson hairdryers on right now on 4 easy payments.

I'm getting this I have fine hair. Which looks better in a short Bob but it's more comfortable wearing masks with hair tied back. Which means I need my hair longer. So it means I need frequent hair cuts to stop it getting straggly and tangly. Can't wait till this whole thing is over so I can lop it all off again.

Roominmyhouse · 18/12/2020 21:32

My hair is awful! I’ve had it cut a couple of times this year but haven’t had any colour all year. Whilst WFH I’ve just been letting it dry naturally and it’s a mess. It’s ok if I do blow dry it but most days I can’t be arsed. I really need to sort it out!

YanTanTethera01 · 18/12/2020 22:06

I'm 55 and have long shiny hair and haven't been to the hairdressers for a cut since February. I recently put some shape into the front of it, something that's pretty straightforward to do and I also do the roots with a colour from e-salon that is just as good as anything the hairdresser can provide. It just takes a little care, attention, a decent volumizing shampoo and a shine product like colour wow a couple of times a week. Last Christmas, DD bought me the best hair product ever from WOW that made my hair feel like silk for 3 months. I'm crossing my fingers for another one this year!

grey12 · 19/12/2020 10:22

My hair is getting inspired!! The different styles and types of split ends that it has invented is extraordinary!!! Grin

PoppyOppy · 19/12/2020 10:29

I'm getting mine cut by DH today. I'm sick of it, it's down to below my bra strap and I keep catching it when I sit down.

I yearn for a chin-length bob!

FestiveStuffing · 19/12/2020 12:20

Right. I've taken action and booked into a salon for tomorrow. DS will have to take a bottle of EBM if he gets hungry. I deserve to not look like something the cat dragged in.

Ginfordinner · 19/12/2020 12:56

@IPeedInThePool

Do it your self it’s super easy pony at the top of your head and then cut it gives lovely layers too YouTube it
But your hair has to be long enough to tie into a ponytail in the first place. I had to put up with a grown out layered bob for several months but it just looked a horrible mess.
Aprilx · 19/12/2020 12:59

My hair was looking a bit of a mess in July. But it is back to normal now, hairdressers have been open other than for the month in November.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 13:06

I got mine done yesterday and it is such a relief.

ParlezVousWronglais · 19/12/2020 13:10

Oh who cares what people look like. It’s not important anymore.

Pollypudding · 19/12/2020 13:19

Haven’t had mine cut since February- was a chin length bob- made an appointment for Tuesday after my husband said I looked like a bag lady !! Thanks- alright for him - I have been cutting his hair since March ! Confused

I care how my hair looks. So shoot me.
BrightYellowDaffodil · 19/12/2020 14:47

After a certain age it can look scruffy.

I could not give one shiny shit if someone thinks I look “scruffy”.

I don't care what 'people' look like. I care what I look like. Different kettle of fish.
