to think Christmas cards will die out?

There seem to be so many people doing charity donations instead now. Which is great, but as someone who really enjoys sending and receiving cards, it makes me feel a bit torn plus some people can be really virtue-signal-y about the fact that they're doing donations instead

There seem to be more people than ever doing donations this year, and I'm sure finances and the general situation are playing a big part in that. But it does make me wonder if sending cards will end up being something only a minority of people do. AIBU in thinking they're on their way out and that covid has sounded their death knell, in a similar sort of way to how it's dealt a hammer blow to high street shopping?

I love them, although only send and receive to/from family.

They may peter out over decades, but not immediately. I still sent over 100 this year and we’ve received a lot back.

Not yet received as many as we usually do, but there’s still a few days posting yet, and it’s a tradition I like and am keen to carry on.

I'd be sad if they did die out - no one's under any obligation to send them, but the sentiments around Christmas cards mean a lot to me. We haven't had as many as usual so far, and it does make me wonder. (No, we haven't fallen out with anyone. Grin)

Not sure I get the 'think of the environment' angle as most cards are recyclable - plus I make my own and use old gift tags/cards and even crackers to do so. It's only a waste of paper if people aren't getting anything out of doing it imho.

Not trying to say anyone should feel obligated to send them if they don't want to - it's a free country - but personally I hope they won't go the way postcards seem to have gone since the advent of email.
