Masks causing spots! Help!

My skin is absolutely wrecked, I have always been lucky with my skin but I constantly have spots around my mouth (mask area) and its really getting me down. I have no choice in what type I wear or length of wearing (nurse). Has anyone got any good tips that might sort my skin out please?

Have you tried a barrier cream? We use them at work and I haven't had any problems

Lex345 · 18/12/2020 08:59

Glad its not just me @Nonononon I feel your pain!
Will barrier cream clog it up more? Will try anything right now!

I usually put the barrier cream on the parts where the mask might rub because I have contact urticaria. So on my nose and tops of my cheeks and it works a treat stopping my skin reacting.

I am not sure how it will work in your situation but worth a try?

JillofTrades · 18/12/2020 09:04

Do you wear makeup? That could be causing it?

Lex345 · 18/12/2020 09:09

I will give it a try thank you which do you use?

I have this issue as well. I have found changing mask more often has helped and I'm also using a clearasil wash I bought for my teenager! In the shower and also at least once a day at the sink.

I don't wear make up - I feel that at least the mask covers up where the spots are!

Some HCPs here find aspirin face wash helpful.

I usually use the one provided at work which I can't remember the name of.

But I also have Vines Biocrin All Purpose Barrier Cream which I've never had any problems with. Just make sure your skin is really clean before you put it on or you are just trapping stuff inside.

Just checked the ingredients - it does have almond oil so don't get it if you are allergic to nuts :D

Maskne! It sucks. I read that it's a combination of sweating and the rubbing of the fabric causing micro tears in the skin, so a barrier cream should definitely help. Perhaps also use a cleanser before putting the mask on and after taking it off each day?

Bettysnow · 18/12/2020 09:28

I also found regular mask changing helps

Lex345 · 18/12/2020 09:32

Thank you so much for the tips! Do change the mask frequently but will definitely try the barrier cream and clearsil/face wash ideas Smile

Niacinamide and a glycolic toner, and a light moisturiser with hyaluronic acid - The Ordinary products are amazing
