Herefordshire into Tier 1... I live about 100m from the border!

As above I live within spitting distance of the Herefordshire border, my son goes to school over the border.

I live my life in that county but am still in tier 2 as am Worcestershire.

Would I be unreasonable to pretend I have a Herefordshire postcode and go out with all my mates?

I'm not going to by the way, but how tempted would you be if you were me? Would you do it?

(I appreciate how lucky I am still being in tier 2 btw when so many are trapped in tier 3)

Very, as a fellow Worcestershire resident (2 miles from border) I feel your temptation! Alas I don’t have any Herefordshire based friends so it would feel like a stretch of the rules too far for me to go!

plannit · 17/12/2020 17:24

I think my town would be tier 1 if we went to a more localised approach.

I'm more gutted for my son as he's desperate for a play date with his mates but they can and he can't!

You would be unreasonable.

Partly because it seems unreasonable that Herefordshire has gone into tier 1 given the number of cases in Wales next door.

From the figures I have seen, parts of Devon and Dorset should have gone into tier 1, unless hospital capacity is limited.

Well someone has to. What are we going to do, put a 10 mile exclusion zone between each health authority and say people can't live there?

I'm not going to by the way,

Good.

I think my town would be tier 1 if we went to a more localised approach.

You want a more localised approach, but you were talking about being tempted to break the rules because you live near people in a lower tier than you? The more localised the approach, the more people will be living within spitting distance of a lower tier than they are.

lookdeepintotheparka · 17/12/2020 18:27

It's a bit barmy in some cases as we're now living literally a minute from the border with a Tier 3 area and we're in Tier 2. Kids go to school across the border, we do our shopping there, gym and everything! I guess there's always going to be people on the borders but crazy as it seems, we have to go by the rules.

The weird thing is cases are currently much higher in our nearest Tier 2 town than the Tier 3 one we live on the doorstep of and shouldn't now be going into Hmm

We're in tier 3 but I live near the Worcestershire border. We went past a pub 3 miles from where we live on Sunday and the pub was packed out. V jealous. I'm even more jealous of those in Herefordshire going into tier 1 but am really pleased for them.

Me too, we live less than 2 miles away and can't book restaurants in tier 2, they are checking postcodes.

They have to draw the line somewhere
Just follow the rules

plannit · 17/12/2020 20:34

I'm not saying I think that it should be more localised. I know the line has to go somewhere.

It's just odd where I am as the border literally runs across the top of the Malverns and we are more or less a town split in two.

The local Facebook page is going crazy because a Herefordshire hotel/pub is celebrating tier 1 and trying to lure customers in but posting it on the Malvern Noticeboard... because they ARE in Malvern just the Herefordshire side - so us tier 2 can go there with same household only and the tier 1 folk can go with anyone. There's no way they can police that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Newkitchen123 · 17/12/2020 20:40

This is part of the reason we're in the situation we're in. Because it shouldn't have to be policed. People should take more responsibility.
I don't mean you. I just mean in general

dontlikebeards · 17/12/2020 22:28

Be grateful you are in tier 2. I miss the pub!

^ This. We've been in a local lockdown, tier 3, lockdown, then tier 3 since September. I miss seeing my friends inside my house and my parents are terrified of visiting as if we're all lepers.

OppsUpsSide · 17/12/2020 22:44

Ooh I’m Herefordshire, but my BF is just over the boarder so it makes no difference to us. I don’t think the change in tier will have any impact on me actually Confused, still quite excited though!

plannit · 18/12/2020 09:36

I'm definitely grateful I'm in tier 2, I did say I'm lucky in the OP.

I've been able to go for breakfast with my mum who is a single person bubble with us and I'm so glad because she's been so lonely. Wry lucky.

I just know that so many people from this town will pop over the border to meet non household friends and family. That's all.

Exactly, whenever there is a cut-off line someone will be just on the wrong side of it.
