When rates rise in The North we go into higher tiers. When rates fall in the north but increase in the south we remain in a high tier.

I don’t actually disagree with everyone being in the high tiers and think the Christmas free for all is pretty daft but this governments blatant bias towards the south sucks!

Yabu - the government don’t favour the south

Yanbu - yes they do

Imo there must not be enough Tory-donor business interests in the north - the government favour their/their friends wallets.

(YANBU but this government don’t care about the people in the south either)

SerenityFlowers · 17/12/2020 14:23

Well, you can't have it both ways. If you don't disagree with places being in the higher tiers, then you can't also complain that they are!

ForestNymph · 17/12/2020 14:24

Hes absolutely right. I wish England would split around Watford and we could have separate governments tbh, sick of London and the South getting favoured every time while the rest of us are shunted.

romany4 · 17/12/2020 14:25

I completely agree with you

Sirzy · 17/12/2020 14:26

I think there has been obvious favouring of the London area throughout this.

That said as someone in a tier 3 area of the north I don’t think we should have been moved down

Chloemol · 17/12/2020 14:31

Yabu

Youngatheart00 · 17/12/2020 14:32

@ForestNymph the rest of the country couldn’t survive without the tax revenue from London and the SE

Economically would it work? You might need revenue from SE
TheFuckingDogs · 17/12/2020 14:37

There’s an increasingly strong argument for a split. Personally I’d take The North with Scotland.

I do agree that this government however shafts the poor of London and the SE as much as they do anyone else

OP posts:
ForestNymph · 17/12/2020 14:38

Why do we? Plenty of other economically viable cities in the North, Midlands and even Scotland.

TheFuckingDogs · 17/12/2020 14:40

Yes Forest completely agree

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 17/12/2020 14:41

I’m fine with it. SE has London

hardheadedwoman · 17/12/2020 14:41

London is hardly favoured - we’re in Tier 3!

ancientgran · 17/12/2020 14:42

The economic balance would be better if many govt departments were moved out of London. Makes sense to have things in a more central position with easier access for much of the country.

TheFuckingDogs · 17/12/2020 14:44

Yes but you’re only just in tier 3 - some cities in the north has essentially been in tier 3 since the 1st national lockdown ended. Recently out rates have massively dropped yet they’ve kept us in tier 3 today even though our rates lower now than London’s were when they kept them as tier 2

OP posts:
TheFuckingDogs · 17/12/2020 14:46

Marsha you may have London but we have the beautiful countryside, the wit and the good pies 😉

You are now but the rest of us have been in it for ages and Manchester has been locked down for about 3 months I think it is
thereisonlyoneofme · 17/12/2020 15:04

London had the first lockdown though didnt it ?

unmarkedbythat · 17/12/2020 15:13

A reddit group I am in had me gaping this week; months and months of Manchester being under restrictions and all the members telling us solemnly that yes, it must be hard but it was necessary and yes, it was sad that businesses were failing and people jobless but it was necessary... and then London goes into Tier 3 and the outpouring of rage and angst and railing against it was astounding.

x2boys · 17/12/2020 15:26

Andy Burnham hasent thought this up by himself though has he ,you go any local news website and there's a load of pissed off Northerners saying the same thing!

nosswith · 17/12/2020 15:26

What I think is wrong is that parts of Nortumberland and Lancashire have not been moved down, given acceptance it can be by district.

London bias is there, not unique to this government.

TheRaccoon · 17/12/2020 15:36

I think it would have made sense to at least move Trafford out considering they’re lower than all their surrounding areas.

The issue at the moment is that if you’re a restaurant or pub moving from T3 to T2 and decide to open, if you move back to T3 (or a national lockdown) after Christmas then you stand to lose an awful lot more money than if you’d stayed shut due to costs associated with paying staff, ordering food/ drink that isn’t consumed etc.

It’s just a shit situation all round.

But it’s been obvious the north isn’t on a level playing field for a long time. No one seems to give a shit that Leicester have been under restrictions since March, or Manchester since July Hmm

Peanutbutterblood · 17/12/2020 15:42

Northumberlandian here, theres definite bias. When Scotland wanted the vote on independence I really wanted them to stay, now I wish Northumberland could join them and leave. Leave the south to it

Fluffybutter · 17/12/2020 15:48

Really getting fucked off with this whole divide thing .
We’re all in the shit and it won’t be better anytime soon.
Direct your anger to the government not to anyone south of Watford gap , we don’t want this crap government anymore than you do !
