Hugh Pym harassed a woman on the tube this morning about why she wasn't wearing a mask. That's not how he describes it of course.
Hugh Pym is the health editor. If anyone at the BBC can be reasonably expected to be aware that people with disabilities are exempt and that members of the public are not supposed to be creating a hostile environment for disabled people by challenging them about masks, I think Hugh is one. Sadly, it appears Hugh is entirely unaware of this.
It surprises me not at all that the person he harassed was a woman. Most of the cases I have heard of people being hassled by self-appointed monitors have been a case of a man hassling a woman. People like Mr Pym let their gaze travel on when it's a six foot tall retired rugby player.
Hugh feels he is a victim in the matter, naturally, and that he was subject to "abuse" from this fellow passenger for a "polite" query. But supplies no further description of what he means by abuse.
I expect she thought it was an invasive question that she did not, and should not, be asked to discuss with a complete stranger in the middle of a tube carriage.
I am really disappointed in him and his colleagues who are cheering him on. Unreasonable?
Here's a link so you can judge for yourself, rather than taking my rage-filled invective for gospel.
