Considering laser eye surgery?

My vision is terrible. I wear contacts every day and glasses when I take them out but I have never been one of those people who look cool in glasses - they just don't suit me.

My contacts cost me about £16 a month so not expensive and I have no problems wearing them, like some people do.

However, I'd love to not have to bother with contacts or glasses...to be able to see when I wake up, etc.

I paid to have invisalign braces on my teeth a few years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done. My teeth didn't look bad to others but I was very self conscious about them to paid in instalments to improve them.

I know laser eye surgery isn't cheap so I may have to pay in instalments if I go ahead but wondered what other people's experiences of LES is to help me decide...

I had it about 8 years ago and still have perfect eyesight. My dsis had it at the same time and is now short sighted again (however much less than originally!)

The procedure isn't very nice, recovery was quick and easy. I would recommend it.

Only thing is haggle haggle haggle. My original quote was about £5k and by the time it came to it i think i paid about £2,300.

Go for it.

I had mine done about 15 years ago. Perfect vision for 10 years, only recently one eye has gone very slightly short sighted. I've also hit the age where I'm needing reading glasses but that would have happened regardless.

After having short sight since childhood it was so lovely to be able to josh wake up and go. No contacts or glasses. Easy to find your family at the beach after a swim... Jsit be sure you are happy with the company and what they are providing..

Also had terrible eyesight and had my eyes zapped 20 years ago at Moorfields....best £3k I ever spent. My eyesight is still excellent and I've had no problems at all.

Would definitely recommend doing lots of research first on reputable places. The procedure is quick and painless and it felt miraculous that I was given my eyesight back. Do it!

My vision was about -7. Pretty impossible to function without glasses, I particularly hated waking up not being able to see, swimming and also long haul flying. I would wear contacts for days or nights out but could not wear them all day in an office looking at a computer.

I had my surgery just over 12 years ago when I was 38.

It is the best thing I have ever done, it is a life changer. The procedure itself took minutes, it was a few weeks before I could see really clearly, maybe six months before the night time light glare subsided. I had dry eyes and regularly carried eye drops for a few years. I still have perfect distance vision but I got reading glasses maybe three years ago. Reading glasses are nowhere near as inconvenient as glasses for short sightedness. I probably would have needed them anyway, my short-sighted sister got them.

My husband had his eyes done around the same time. His prescription was milder than mine, he was 20/20 the next morning and never had any trouble. He is younger than me, mid 40s and has started to borrow my reading glasses from time to time in the last couple of months. Still perfect distance vision.

I was short sighted (-6.75) and had mine done in 2005 in my mid 20's. Perfect long vision still, only now that I'm getting older I'm finding the need for reading glasses. Best thing I ever did. Just read up on the potential complications before making your decision.

Thanks for the comments so far. Can I ask, those of you who have had them done in recent years, what did you pay, roughly?

I had it over 20 years ago. Best money ever spent! So amazing still to this day that I can just open my eyes and see!!!

Huge cost savings too! I used to have to have a lot of lights on in the house because I just really couldn’t see well.

Had to have two pairs of sun glasses - one prescription and one without, regular glasses and contacts. Now just have a pair of sunglasses.

I’m much older now (well, 20 years older) and my eyes have changed but I still do t need glasses. Naturally one eye is now seeing far and one near (was not the case when eyes were lasered).
