To be royally p*ssed off at Hermes?

Email to say package would be delivered Saturday (12th). Window came and went.. email to say it had been delayed and I would be contacted Monday.
Nothing until 1pm today to say it was out for delivery..
Well, it has just arrived, soaking wet and WIDE OPEN. The delivery guy ran back to his car with his chin to his chest and sped off!

There is just under £200 worth of perfume in this order (Christmas).. It's in there and is magically undamaged.. I'm worrying it maybe even could've been replaced with fakes?

Does anyone know a number I can call to get through to an actual human at Hermes? Or what I am best doing? Furious is an understatement Angry

It wasn't signed for. I'd find it a bit strange if the delivery guy hung around just to watch me at the busiest time of year.

The perfume is there and undamaged, forget it and move on.

Replaced with fakes though 😂😂

@Olivetree615

Ah, I've had it many a time where I've 'not been in' *@ThatIsNotMyUsername* .. I hate them..

I completely agree that the idea of them being tampered with is me being dramatic.. but it was 4 days late and the driver ran off with his tail between his legs before I'd even had chance to pick the thing up.

This is more of a last straw for me with this damn courier..

Most delivery drivers quickly scamper off. There is a pandemic.
SlopesOff · 16/12/2020 14:42

Parcels get walked over in the vans while the driver is trying to sort them out. Heavy things thrown on top of smaller things. The drivers are under pressure to deliver and don't take a lot of care, neither do the other people that handle them on the way. Yes, some things will be opened but that happens with the other companies too.

I have had Hermes deliveries that weren't packed properly, a plastic bin in a clear bag, smashed into bits, a bottle of aviary disinfectant in a box but with the top unscrewed, often boxes with smashed in corners. I sigh with relief when my parcels arrive with the contents intact regardless of the company that delivers them.

Today I received an item of clothing (Royal Mail, regular postie) wrapped in flimsy brown paper that had almost shredded itself completely off the contents, I was lucky the tape was holding it together and that the seller had put it inside a thin bin bag inside the useless paper.

emilyfrost · 16/12/2020 14:43

You’ve got your items undamaged - there isn’t an issue here. Of course they haven’t been replaced with fakes Confused

Cheeseandlobster · 16/12/2020 14:47

Fgs. I received a delivery today from Royal Mail. Damaged box and missing perfume so I now have to apply for compensation from them and dont have a present for my aunt. Yours was all there so nothing to complain about. Do you really think Hermes just happen to have fakes of the exact same perfume you have purchased? Hmm

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 16/12/2020 14:49

That isnt accidentally burst open when picking up or something. The cardboard runner that you pull to open the box has been pulled all the way along so it would open. That was deliberate.

It would be highly unlikely though that someone could open that, source the fake perfume and swap them out. They'd have to be running a large scale takes operation to have any item that might turn up in a parcel. The perfumes will be fine.

Hermes have removed their live chat function (to chat to humans) and removed their phone lines for people receiving packages. You literally cannot get hold of them. They will only take communication from wherever posted the parcel so you would need to go through debenhams.

Cheeseandlobster · 16/12/2020 14:50

And of course you are furious. About what? What exactly do you want them to do?

Meepmeeep · 16/12/2020 15:08

@choppitychopchop

What I don't understand is all the threads like this with so much hate for Hermes (& yodel etc) but then seeing all the posts being shared about how we should be "understanding" to Royal Mail because they're doing the best they can even though their service is absolutely shocking at the min. Also your issue is with Debenhams not Hermes so there's no point trying to contact Hermes (which is pretty much impossible I think anyway).

Hermes is useless. We had a gift for DS arrive 2 weeks after his birthday and the delivery driver let himself into our home to leave it on the hall table ( which meant going through the porch and 2/3 metres into the house) and didn't even knock or ring the bell. DS found it with the box in tatters and the item was damaged beyond repair. We have a covered area outside the porch where he could've left it. He could've even left it on the small table we have inside the porch. Instead he left it at the end of the long hall table.

I have been using dpd for quite a few parcels now (since we won’t be visiting family) and they have been really good (touch wood). Hermes have had issues with every delivery I have sent/been sent and I wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole now.
Olivetree615 · 16/12/2020 15:26

I appreciate they will not have replaced my items and that is dramatic. I also am not angry regarding the delay. That could've been so much worse/not turned up at all.

I just can't believe the state it has been delivered in. These are glass bottles; it just isn't okay..
I've got away with it this time but I truly have never had a good experience with Hermes and have never met a person irl who has.. I'm not sure how they get away with it!

Agree with @choppitychopchop!

OliveHenry · 16/12/2020 20:44

I'm currently awaiting a Hermes delivery which has been with the courier for delivery today since 08.26, and haven't heard a thing since.

It's a replacement for a parcel they lost in one of their unmanned warehouses in November.

I have sympathy with the couriers at the sharp end of all this, but their organisation and customer service is atrocious.

Undies1990 · 16/12/2020 21:10

What do you want to achieve by speaking to Hermes?

Your items were late but weren't damaged. The driver is probably on minimum wage working all hours to feed their family - it's not necessarily the drivers fault the box was damaged.

Maybe in future you could check which delivery company will be used before placing your online orders and avoid the ones using Hermes?

Welshgirl10 · 16/12/2020 21:14

I ordered two packages from Debenhams with perfume in them- one has never arrived and the other one arrived totally empty! Debenhams have sent out replacements which once again haven’t arrived....they do respond to emails within about 2 days though!

NovemberR · 16/12/2020 23:30

I waited in for 12 hours today for Hermes to collect a parcel to send to my DD - a nurse working at the other end of the country. I'd booked a collection and it simply said 8am - 8pm so I couldn't even nip out for food. We are fairly rural.

They never fucking showed. That was my day off. Now I have the choice to wonder if they'll turn up tomorrow for it - when I'm at work - and shove a card through my door saying they tried. I'm also at work Friday. Or do I take it and drop it at a collection centre (local ish newsagent who speak little English).

If I leave it there will I ever know if Hermes have bothered collect it?

I haven't seen my DD for 9 months now and this is a massive box with all her Christmas presents in it. If she's working Christmas Day, which she is, with vulnerable patients I at least wanted her to have some gifts from her family.

I am SOOO pissed off with them and don't know what to do.

MeepleMe · 16/12/2020 23:38

Hermes once left a £500 electrical item outside my front door in the rain. I got the photo soon after arriving at work so no way to go home and rescue it. Couldn't get the live chat person/bot to agree to go back and keep it safe. Miraculously it was still there and undamaged. I was tempted to say it has gone walkies and get it replaced but didn't!
In your case OP I'd just thank your lucky stars it's all undamaged and forget about it.

OliveHenry · 17/12/2020 13:37

My parcel never showed. Found out this morning it's been damaged (whilst with Hermes) and is on its way back to the sender. FFS.

2nd replacement (3rd attempt in total!) is coming with DPD as the retailer has got fed up of problems with Hermes. Hope they're a bit better!

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 17/12/2020 13:43

I’ve been using dpd for quite a few things now and (touch wood) all been fine so far.

hansgrueber · 17/12/2020 14:33

An unpopular, out-of-step view, but this Christmas they've done what it says on the tin, they've even delivered earlier than originally predicted, the tracking has been up-to-date. In the past we've had problems though.
