Quick help please anyone - photo ID required for Covid test

DS (2y9m) was sent home from nursery today as he suddenly started coughing. Fair enough. We organised a Covid test for him and they were super on it, test available today.

Only, DH says the woman on the phone said they won't do the test without photo ID for him. He doesn't have a passport as we've never happened to take him abroad (finances haven't permitted) since he was born.

Surely loads of toddlers don't have passports? This can't be a requirement? Is it? Cos if they do require it, we can't supply and then have to isolate for 2 weeks - ???

Help please! Confused

If you don’t have it you don’t have it. Take his birth certificate and your id if names are matching or DH goes if it’s his name

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 16/12/2020 10:57

He (DS) is double barrelled and so has DH name and mine.

We've had six tests as a household and been asked for ID once. Bring what you can (birth cert and your passport?) but I wouldn't be overly concerned.

purpleme12 · 16/12/2020 11:00

This is ridiculous
I bet they won't even ask for it
When I booked ours you got an email with had a qr code in and you just had to show them the email on your phone
Just go and tell them you don't have one. I'm sure it'll be fine

Topseyt · 16/12/2020 11:01

Call them again and say that he doesn't have a passport because he has never been taken abroad. There is no legal requirement to have a passport.

Ask if his birth certificate will do, and say that the person driving him will provide their own passport.

I hate this assumption by all in authority that everyone must have either a passport or driving licence. There is no legal requirement to have either unless you are actually going to need them.

Moonandstars25 · 16/12/2020 11:03

When DS had a test didn’t need ID. He was 11 months at the time. No passport, still doesn’t as no point atm and his birth certificate was missing. I took the letter with his NHS number and his red book in case They didn’t even ask to see it. Just take the birth certificate and your ID.

Smallbus1 · 16/12/2020 11:04

We had covid tests on Monday (me, DH and 7m babies) and none of us had to provide ID.

SBAM · 16/12/2020 11:04

I took my ID and baby’s red book for tests yesterday but wasn’t asked for any ID

Butterymuffin · 16/12/2020 11:06

I wasn't asked for photo ID when I had mine. I think I was asked to take ID with address but it wasn't looked at. Just take whatever you have (doctor's letter, child benefit?) and go along. I reckon it'll be fine.

purpleme12 · 16/12/2020 11:06

Exactly
I bet the vast majority of people going for tests, children or adults, won't have been asked for any ID at all
I wouldn't trust the person on the phone

MrsMigginsMate · 16/12/2020 11:08

About 10 tests for my kids so far and never once asked for ID.

OfTheNight · 16/12/2020 11:10

None of us have been asked for ID. I took DS’s birth certificate, but no one even mentioned ID when we went. They just wanted the QR code on our phones.

Willow4987 · 16/12/2020 11:13

My DS had a test yesterday and they didn’t ask for ID for him

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 16/12/2020 11:19

Thanks, am heading out with his birth cert. Cannot find his red book - mother of the year here!! - only his twin's. Helpful!!

Really hope this cuts it. Just don't understand how they expect toddlers to have passports in a pandemic, I mean, the first year of his life we were surviving, the second year there were international travel restrictions!

Just take birth certificate. My son is 3.5 and doesn't have photo ID yet.

Also, at the drive through test centres they haven't asked me for ID when I've been.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 16/12/2020 11:21

You'll be fine. My 5 year old and 8 month old had tests without photo ID. Nobody at the site even asked for it but the baby doesn't have a passport so I wouldn't have had any anyway.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/12/2020 11:23

Didn't your DH misunderstood and the women meant that the adult coming in with DS should have a photo ID, rather than DS?

StepBackPlease · 16/12/2020 11:42

We had a test for 2 year old DD yesterday OP and I've had 3 previously - haven't been asked for ID once.

Are people are getting fraudulent COVID tests?

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 16/12/2020 12:01

Schro - dunno, apparently she said 'you'll need to have some form of photo ID for him' so sounded like she meant DS. We are about to queue so we'll see!

I did wonder if it was cos DH rather than me was ringing....

My household got tested yesterday and none of us had ID with us, even though we were supposed to. They didn’t ask to see it.

Perhaps it varies from centre to centre though.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/12/2020 12:08

not been asked forphoto id.

Nowaynothappening · 16/12/2020 12:09

We’ve had a few tests now and never been asked for ID. Lots of people don’t have photo ID. Take his birth certificate but honestly doubt they’ll ask to see it.

Slipper2 · 16/12/2020 12:14

I took my 10 yo who doesn't have a passport, so they asked for my ID on arrival, I showed them my driving license but we do have the same surname.
