HELP! POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TEST

Plzhelpme56 · 16/12/2020 09:45

Can someone please advise!
I did two tests the same day within the same hour - one with a private lab and medical professional - came back negative.
One with NHS - came back positive.

I don’t know what to do. I have no symptoms.
When I took my NHS test I had just eaten loads of chocolate and when I swabbed chocolate came out on the swab, I wasn’t sure what that meant if anything.

What does it mean? Any false positive

I would ring 119 just to be sure, but I'm very sure that they'd tell you to go with the positive one to be on the safe side.

Why did you do two tests? Why did you get an nhs test when you have no symptoms? Why didn’t you make sure your mouth was clean before doing the nhs test?
One of the results is wrong err on the side of caution and assume you’re positive

False negatives aren't hugely uncommon but my understanding is that a positive is a positive. Go with that.

There must have been a reason to suspect you were positive if you went for the test? Unless you are tested for work?

Still not sure why you’d go for 2 tests, especially with no symptoms, but now you have positive result you will have t go by that and isolate.

Basically, I had to do an NHS one as part of the testing drive locally. I did a private one to be allowed to catch my flight...hence my panic.

I called 119 she said she can’t advise as she doesn’t know what to do. I was then told the nhs test only tests for the group of coronavirus and can include the common cold whereas the private tested for a specific strain so is potentially accurate.

I thought my throat was clear! I was starving and didn’t realise until I swabbed. The private one was done correctly by a professional.

I’m no scientist and neither will be the woman on the phone but most tests are at best 70% accurate and I’m not sure how the private one would differ from the nhs one.

I would imagine but i don’t know for sure that false negatives are more common than false positives though.
