Needing a bit of advice hairdresser burnt my scalp and it's orange

Hello, I got my hair done on Saturday, it look fine in their lightening. Then I got home and felt something on my head without thinking I pulled it off and it was a scab. Then that night my head was covered in them. It's also bright orange. It looks horrible. It's really knocked my confidence

What would you do I'm booked in for Friday for no colour.
They messaged after I said my scalp is burnt and my hair is orange. Just wirh google advice and said theyd phone the next day.

They phoned during the school run asking em to go to their saloon. Then I phoned the next day said it was better but still itchy and hard to sleep with the itching

They haven't siad they will colour correct.

My friends say they'd want a refund.
(It cost me £60) with their junior stylist. But their junior stylists followed exactly what the owner and higher up stylists told her to do. They also helped at points.

What should I be expecting. I'm honestly so annoyed.

It's like that all over my scalp and the orange colour

Did they do a test first?

RosePetalss · 16/12/2020 09:44

Is it a reaction? Your scalp does look sore did you have a patch test before?

winterbabythistime · 16/12/2020 09:44

They asked you to go into their salon? Presumably they want to see what they can do to fix it. So I'd do that first.

Fuckertyfuckmcfuck · 16/12/2020 09:44

Did they do a patch test?

Fuckertyfuckmcfuck · 16/12/2020 09:45

Cancel the cheque 😄 just seen the other replies

niceupthedance · 16/12/2020 09:47

Was it a scalp (all over) bleach? I was warned before that it could burn and I accepted the risk... if they didn't mention it I'd complain

toddtodd · 16/12/2020 13:02

I had the test done about 4 years ago I've been going there for that length of time

Yeahnahmum · 16/12/2020 13:06

Ask for them to correct it. You deserve that 😊

Aprilx · 16/12/2020 13:10

When did they last ask you to do a skin test? Have they offered but you have declined? Products change and so four years ago is quite a long time to have not been retested. My hairdressers retested everybody when they reopened in July.

I would go in and see what they say, your hair doesn’t look orange to me. I think a refund or your next appointment free would be reasonable.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/12/2020 13:14

Go back and let them see it, discuss what can be done to correct it etc.

I've had my hair / head damaged by juniors before, it's part of the risk you take by agreeing to let them practice on you. I have always had good remedial work done, juniors get a good learning experience and their supervising person does too!

Be prepared to be told you should have continued doing the skins tests... allergies can start out of nowhere, any time!

ScalpHelp · 16/12/2020 13:20

No offence but the colour is the least of your worries. You need to seek medical help and see how serious this is and ensure the scabs are free of infection. Worst case scenario, you could face hair loss, although this is really unlikely. Better to be safe than sorry.

The hairdresser on the other hand, will be liaising with their insurers/solicitors to figure out the best way forward in the interests of their business. They should be regularly skin testing you. My salon tests clients every 6 months, 4 years is a bit suspect. I would have thought they would be hesitant to colour your hair again, particularly whilst your scalp is still healing.

toddtodd · 16/12/2020 13:44

Yeah I never declined a skin test at, was never offered one. Only when I first ever went years ago

My hair is fine and naturally dark blonde. They left the dye on for 1 hour then came back and put more on for 15 mins. They kept apologising for it pulling. The more experienced stylist said it has to be done.. I never thought anything at all of this at the time but from watching a few videos this isn't right.

I was never offered anything for my scalp and asked to go in on Friday.

They asked daily how it was and I truthfully said a bit better each day. I have all the photos etc.

toddtodd · 16/12/2020 13:44

Left the bleach on for an hour sorry

OP posts:
toddtodd · 16/12/2020 13:46

They did ask a few times if it was burning but more in a jokingly way

Surely there was signs of this damage when my hair was being washed?

I never knew a junior stylist was a risk. I assumed she was fully qualified just starting out

Is my best option to ask for a refund and never go again?

Or get the colour fixed on Friday. It is really orange I just don't think the camera picks it up. It's bright orange roots (hot roots) into a toned darker blonde. It looks horrendous.

To be honest if you've been going for four years and always been happy, I think if it were me I would give them the benefit of the doubt and go in and let them take a look and see what they suggest before complaining and demanding your money back.

With the itching etc it sounds more as if you've had a reaction to the bleach rather than them burning you with it, allergies can start randomly out of nowhere even if you have been fine with it for years, I've seen it happen with a few people. If they hadn't changed products/formulas etc I wouldn't even personally think about needing another patch test, I've never had more than one at a hairdressers regardless of how long I've been going. If it has been an allergic reaction, while yes it's painful and inconvenient for you I don't personally agree with wanting a refund, it's a risk you take any time you get your hair done etc, yes they perhaps should have retested you but you also could have requested they patch test you. If you've been going regularly for years they wouldn't have anymore reason suspect you'd take a reaction that you have.

May be an unpopular opinion but I don't think they've really done anything wrong. Reactions don't always show right away, that's why with patch tests etc it's done 48 hours in advance so they wouldn't necessarily have known before you left the salon, you never noticed either.

As for having a junior stylist, if it is something they have done, it's a risk you take using a stylist, hence why it's usually cheaper getting it done by them. They will have used the same products etc and you said were supported by their manager

ForTheLoveOfCatFood · 16/12/2020 13:55

How can you be sure you won’t have another reaction? I’d ask for a refund and not go back and in the meantime get a gp to check your head in case you need antibiotics

gamerchick · 16/12/2020 13:57

Why are you focusing on your hair? Go and ask someone medical to look at your scalp.

You'd be sick if it starts dropping out.

Veterinari · 16/12/2020 13:59

I think if you've been going there for 4 years with no issues then go on Friday and give them the chance to correct it
Going elsewhere will likely cost you

toddtodd · 16/12/2020 14:21

@Lou98 this was my original thinking too it wasn't until I told my friends that they said they'd be demanding refunds. I know allergies can happen since body's change every 7 years etc. But I'm always known for being way too soft on people. Only thing is I would have thought they'd have given me a fix for it rather than telling me what to get.

Would you expect the colour fix for nothing? I'd at least expect it to be no more than £20-£40 since it's just a toner I want

OP posts:
EasterIssland · 16/12/2020 14:30

have you had covid this year? the nail place I go to do beauty treatment as well and I read that covid can alter your skin and what would be good pre covid now it can cause problems on your skin so they're asking people to get retested if they know they've had covid

Valerievalerie · 16/12/2020 14:37

Patch testing for bleach is no good as it’s an irritant . No dye as such in in. Bleaching often makes head scabby .
To get rid of the orange It needs to have another full head bleach , Have some highlights through to break up the orange
This would be preferable to putting on scalp again
They haven’t done anything wrong .
It’s the risk you take with a full head bleach .
It often takes 2 goes to get it white

Yeah, I do think it sounds like an allergic reaction which unfortunately is just one of these things.

Yeah I would go back to see them and I would expect that to be free of charge and see what they can do, I'd be a bit wary though about getting more colour on it it is an allergy as that will likely irritate it more. See what they say though.

I would say you should speak to your GP aswell as may require antibiotics x
