Just watching this now on TV and some people spend almost £700 on their table decorations!?!?!!!! How much do you spend on decorating your table at xmas inclusing crackers, centerpiece, glasses cutlery etc etc???

This year I’ve bought a table cloth and runner to make the table more festive, that was £25. Other than that it’s the same bits we use all the time.

Dont buy crackers. Never seen the attraction.

Plates are what i have in the kitchen cupboard, daily use, white and plain.

No table cloth -loathe them. And candles on the table.

Most people won't spend that every year - surely they'll buy tableware one year and then reuse.

I'm not bothered about crackers, but might buy a candle (£2 ish)

We used to use a Christingle or 2 as the centrepiece/s. Free and edible should the need arise.

I was temporarily shocked, but then a quick google suggested that we’d also need to shell out around 750 quid to replace our good china and glasses (mostly wedding presents), tablecloth, Xmas roast dish etc.

But that is a ten person table setting, and it’s 25 years old so not too bad on an annual basis.

Much more shocking is the Popbitch reader who recently spotted George Osborne out spending 600 quid on baubles!

About thre’pence ‘apenny. We uncouthly reuse our stuff collected over the years and call it tradition. Buy swanky crackers in the Jan Sales and store them.

TheChosenTwo · 16/12/2020 20:50

Absolutely nothing bar the crackers which we buy a kit for and fill ourselves (probably works out as quite a lot but I like the contents to be proper presents and not shit!) but we usually have about 20 squeezed round our table which seats 16 at a push Grin
I’ve never had table space for festive centrepieces once all the serving dishes are on the table.
I bought at 4 metre piece of fabric about 5 years ago as I couldn’t find a tablecloth that long as short notice (well, by the time I realised I didn’t have one!) and it’s the same one I use every year. Dd hemmed it for me as it had raw edges.
Nothing else gets spent on table decor.

already own cutlery and crockery

no centerpiece it just takes up room, food is served family style so there needs to be space

spend maybe £2-£3 on crackers (and I think thats too much to be honest for how crap they normally are)
