I hate my cat

And I feel bad for it.

I've always considered myself an animal person. I've had many pets over the years, dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, some exotic ones too, lizards etc...

But my God the cat I have now is so testing. I feel awful for saying it but she drives me insane and I just hate having her.

She destroys everything. She smashes things in my house constantly. Knocking things off, smashing mirrors, glasses, plates, candles etc... And she makes so much noise. Really loud constant meowing.

She also randomly wees in places she shouldn't despite being litter trained. She will do this without warning after not having done it for months. I'll just find a random cushion which reeks and I've no idea why she does it.

We have another cat at the moment who is a breeze.

I don't know what to do. I just wish I'd never got her. I do cuddle her and give attention, I try not to let my interactions with her be negative because I really hate the thought of cruel but she is driving me mad.

I've never ever considered rehoming an animal before, I don't know what to do.

I suggest finding a cat behaviour expert - there are a few around.

Try Royal Canin Calm cat food...it's been a wonder for one of our cats who sounds very much like yours. It was an off the cuff suggestion from the vet. I give it to both our adult cats for ease.

Cats are usually masters/mistresses of negotiating the most cluttered shelf or windowsill without even touching anything, let alone knocking it off. So that part doesn't sound right at all for a cat - they are usually very careful

Keep on at your vet for investigations if you think there's something wrong - you've know this cat since kittenhood. We have several cats, but even the ones who are particularly attached to one of us don't urinate where they shouldn't (unless they have cystitis). My vet always says diagnosing a cat is like diagnosing a child who can't talk - you have to look at all the unspoken cues to work out what might be wrong, and take them all seriously because they (baby/animal) can't be doing anything on purpose, so there must be a reason.

Wishing you luck. And please - don't hate your cat. They really aren't doing it on purpose.

Defo need to rehome her @CatProblemz

She will never be happy with you, and you will never be happy either.

I have known people have a cat who has not settled, and poops everywhere inside, and they really struggle with them. When they are rehomed - often in a place with no little children, and no other pets, they settle.

Rehome her, and don't feel bad about it. She will mourn you and your family for about 2 days. Cats love the one they're with. She will be fine. Smile

I’d try a different vet. Clumsy cat is not normal and there could well be an underlying medical issue. Sight, neurological, arthritis, etc.

My cat was like this around the same age, it turned out he had cancer. I think you need a second vet’s opinion.

Hi I recently took in a cat who had been acting like this.she was my neighbours cat. They are animal lovers and lovely and weren’t doing anything wrong but she hated living with them because she didn’t like the other cat and felt bullied by it. ( Even though it wasn’t actually doing anything). The vet said she was weeing in random places to try and mark her territory because she felt stressed and wanted to eliminate the scent of the other cat.It wasn’t the owners fault but she is so happy with me that I am relieved I took her in. The neighbours also had kids who the cat was freaked out by for some reason. She’s just a nervy cat. They had tried feliway hormone spray which is meant to calm cats down but to no avail. Their other cat likes the kids . I am retired, have free time live alone and the cat gets treated like a princess and acts so differently now, I give her all my attention because I’m a mad cat lady with no job/ stress or children to look after, so I’m not stressed by any bad cat behaviour.
Cats are super vocal if they haven’t been neutered but also if they are stressed or unwell.
I wonder if you could find a Retired, mad cat person such as myself with free time who would take her. There are a lot of us about, pretending to be normal people lol.
You could email the cats protection and ask them to advise about rehoming her. I wouldn’t let her go to any families or households with other pets. Sounds like she needs to be the only pet and have only adults in her house. This is very common with the cats I see.
I volunteer for the cats protection charity and we have a lot of cats who we say when trying to rehome them ‘aren’t suitable for homes with kids or other pets,’ so it’s not your fault, all cats are different.
I bet some cat- obsessed, retired, person would adore her and have time be able to cope with her problems. Only thing I’d beware of is someone dodgy saying they want her but I’m sure you’d rule them out simply by telling them about her bad habits, if they still want her it proves, they are cat mad and will be nice to her. You might be surprised how many people will still want her even with her behaviour problems. My new cat stopped with the weeing everywhere after a few weeks with me, but regularly scratches up and destroys things, but I love her so much I genuinely don’t mind she is my main interest in life and I’ve changed my home to accommodate her 🤣 , It’s a crazy cat persons house lol x
