Has anyone had covid that felt like a cold?

Ds 10 started being a bit snotty on Sunday kinky. Absolutely fine in himself and went to school yesterday. No fever whatsoever or cough until this morning.

He slept soundly all night - thank god but has woke up (around 6am) with a wet cough). It doesn’t seem continuous as such but my instincts are telling me to book a test (no 2 for him since September). Fingers crossed it’ll be negative.

But has anyone experience covid and it felt like W cold? Worried that his symptoms are indeed covid and not the cold I expected.

I know I’m jumping to the worse case scenario now.

Also, how long are reaults taking now? Last time it was 4 bloody days and negative!

@Freetodowhatiwant is their slight cough not enough to warrant a test...? If they have had 3 or more single coughs in 24, then they're eligible for a test.

magnarocks · 15/12/2020 08:32

In 24 hours, that's meant to say.

Ultimatecougar · 15/12/2020 08:33

A number of people at work have had a runny nose with positive Covid tests. It can be a symptom.

CatholicKidston · 15/12/2020 08:36

I went for a test yesterday at 10am and had the result last night at 10pm.

StepintoChristmas29 · 15/12/2020 08:37

@Ultimatecougar interesting isn’t it. We are told that runny noses aren’t a symptom yet so many people have reported that as a symptom! There is barely any covid in my area and 0 in any local schools so I’m crossing my fingers it’s just a cold and results will come back quickly!

@CatholicKidston that’s very quick! I’ve booked one for 10am! So fingers crossed it’ll be quick. Hoping it’ll be negative, even if DS is still too
Poorly to go school dd can go back for end of the week! Fingers crossed! If it’s positive we will think again!

Both my sisters tested positive and both said they felt like they had a cold, a bit bunged up and a sore throat and that was it.

aintnothinbutagstring · 15/12/2020 08:41

DD had a test at 1.30pm yesterday, had results at 6am today. We're in an area that is mass testing though and apparently labs are working 24/7. Was negative so she's back to school. She had sore throat, cough and runny nose. Got her tested for the cough as that's still with her today.

It's a load of rubbish that cold symptoms don't signal Covid.

One of our DC got sent home due to a positive case in school, they had a headache and slight fever and later tested positive as did we.

DC symptoms lasted a day if that then they were fine but me and DH only had cold symptoms. I was snotty and sneezing loads and had a headache. I didn't have a cough at all, at most an itchy throat.

yetanothernamitynamechange · 15/12/2020 08:46

One of my friends kids (teenager) had mild cold symptoms, the younger child didnt show any symptoms at all, my friend was in bed for a week - she said for her it was like flu but worse than the worst flu you can imagine, every single muscle ached, her husband was in hospital for 2 weeks (but thankfully all are recovered now). So the range of severity/symptoms is huge!

yetanothernamitynamechange · 15/12/2020 08:48

At this time of year its also possible that people are running a cold and covid at the same time, I swear my son would overlap colds in normal years. So you could have a covid cough, but still have a runny nose from an entirely different bug.

StepintoChristmas29 · 15/12/2020 13:21

Thanks all. Test didn’t go well despite that he’s had one before and knew what to expect. Wouldn’t even allow the nasal swab for at least 45 minutes. Was sat in the car breathing in each other’s air and was so steamed up in there.

Managed to do about 10 seconds in each nostril n the end. Hoping it’ll be enough! Oh had told his hands to stop him pulling it out or hitting it away whilst I lean over and do the swab! All whilst trying not to touch any other surfaces! He came come and fell asleep. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s poorly or after the trauma or getting a test!

@Northernsoullover Sorry, what?
When did I say I was an “expert” ?!
The op asked a question and I answered .. all of my immediate family have had these symptoms on and off since autumn and we have had tests because of work and they’ve all been negative.
Why would I say “get a test” when it’s very probably just a cold from my experience.
Get a grip , love .

SnowySheep · 15/12/2020 14:54

This is exactly what I had. Very runny nose, headache and a very minor tickly cough. Tested because I knew people at work would be anxious about the cough, although I was absolutely convinced it was just a cold. Positive! And now DH is positive too Sad

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 15/12/2020 14:59

I had these exact symptoms, got a test, negative, which I expected it to be as colds always go to my chest. But it was a new cough, so I thought better to be sure.

TheInfected · 15/12/2020 15:10

Me. Positive. Lied on test as work had an outbreak.

Metalhead · 15/12/2020 15:14

Can’t comment on the symptoms, but my test result last week came back after 26 hours (from a drive thru test).

SecretNutellaFix · 15/12/2020 15:16

Yes. That's what mine has been like. I tested negative first on the 3rd, my DH tested positive. We got to the 5th and my nose was getting stuffy and my throat a bit scratchy, but my husband was getting very bad coughing fits. Monday I developed diarrhoea and I also had come on to my period overnight and was losing bigger clots than normal, but I now think that the tummy issues were related to COVID.
I am on Day 9 of isolation today. Thursday is my first day of freedom in 2 weeks. I feel fine in myself.

My husband is not so lucky. He is currently in ICU on high pressure oxygen treatment and treatment for ketoacedosis. He needs to eat, but he feels too unwell to do so. Until he's eating regularly, he can't leave. He isn't diabetic.

This virus has hit us in 2 very different ways, and at any other time I wouldn't have gotten a second test, classing it as just a cold.

TheInfected · 15/12/2020 15:20

My test came back in 11hrs drive thru

TheInfected · 15/12/2020 15:20

Sorry 12

drumst1ck · 15/12/2020 15:53

A family member started off with usual cold symptoms but no cough. It was only 3/4 days that they lost smell/taste and tested positive.

StepintoChristmas29 · 15/12/2020 16:13

@SecretNutellaFix I really hope your husband makes a speedy recovery 🌸 and glad you’re not feeling too bad. It’s a very bizarre virus!

Thank you. We're just taking it day by day at the minute. I'm acting as family liaison with the hospital for information and my MIL is happy to drop off and collect laundry, etc. I leave what I need to just inside the door and unlock it, spray and wipe everything and stay in the living room until she's closed the door after her.

Our friends have been amazing, and my work has been brilliant. Lots of offers of help, which has been a bit overwhelming at times.

I hope your son feels better quickly- and everyone else is ok too.

StepintoChristmas29 · 15/12/2020 17:00

@SecretNutellaFix glad you have lots of people around to help!

My son is okay! I’m crossing my fingers it’s just a cold as he always gets a cough with a cold! He is pretty much his normal self which is great but frustrating being off school. Dd was a bit snotty last week. No other symptoms so sent her in as requested. He may have caught that! 🤞
