And all the hard work they are doing this december?

Was waiting for a couple of parcels, one got delivered yesterday (didnt know they delivered on a sunday!) And the other has just arrived at 7.30pm

What long hours they must be doing to ensure all parcels get delivered over the busy festive season, feel like this should be appreciated more!

So many posts about lost mail, long delays etc, i just wanted to post about how grateful i am that they are doing what they are doing :)

OP posts:

Great Post, and thank you. Us posties are doing as much as we can and trying to get out as much as we can, with the circumstances from this year is playing a big part with the delays, hope every one has a merry Christmas and a good time with their loved ones. 👍🙂🎄

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 14/12/2020 22:16

You too postie 🎄 🎉 😊

Crankley · 14/12/2020 22:28

Not me. Mine knows I'm disabled but can't be bothered to wait for me to get to the door. He doesn't even ring - he puts a You Were Out card through the letterbox and chucks the parcel in a cupboard round the side of my house. It takes me about half an hour to navigate 3 steps, with walking frame and then drag the parcel back up indoors. It's every time, not a one off occurrence.

Thumbs down from me.

delilahbucket · 14/12/2020 22:42

I have a business collection and my postie showed me what he walked into this morning that needed delivering on his round. Three overflowing cages of parcels, not even including the letters. All he could do was prioritise the tracked parcels and that took up most of his round. As an online retailer I am so sick of the messages "where's my stuff?", " Why is it taking so long to arrive?" And on and on they go. Royal Mail are swamped as are most courier services. I've seen some of my couriers close to breaking point, one welled up when I gave him a box of chocolates to say thank you. Online shopping this year had gone through the roof, retailers and the deliverers are on their knees and I include myself in that. 15 hour days for 6 weeks straight is not fun.

Isolatedizzy · 14/12/2020 23:02

My Postman has been amazing through both lockdowns!
He's my hero! ❤️

blitzen · 14/12/2020 23:03

Another big up from the NE for Royal Mail. I have the best postman in the world.

Standandwait · 14/12/2020 23:13

Hey, we have a great postie down here in London too! As for our dustmen, they have been working on uncomplainingly right through this whole pandemic and I for one am putting together some pressies for them too... Not to mention my youngest son's teachers.

Wish our dear PM were as efficient Grin

Dobbyismyfavourite · 14/12/2020 23:20

My postman is lovely, South East. He always pops any parcels in my porch and closes the door afterwards. I've already given him a Christmas tip and told him how much I appreciate his efforts.

Unlike DPD who left a parcel on my drive last week!

SparklingLime · 15/12/2020 15:55

I had post arriving next day, so hopefully things getting better.

dontdisturbmenow · 15/12/2020 16:06

Well you are lucky. I've mailed two cards 1sr class on Thursday to go to a town only 20mns drive away and they didn't arrive until today.

This one instance of things not arriving for ages even when posted through the main post office. I'm getting really fed up with the crap service.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/12/2020 16:07

My local postie is lovely, but RM have managed to lose several incoming parcels of mine, which I am not pleased about.

SpnBaby1967 · 15/12/2020 16:09

My dad works for them and says the equipment in the sorting offices isnt fit for purpose especially for dealing with parcels.

His job is to keep them up and running and at 65 years old, and due to retire next year he has found himself working 7 days a week to keep them going.

I LOVE my postie, he always goes above and beyond.

ColdCottage · 15/12/2020 16:21

👏👏👏

tectonicplates · 15/12/2020 16:26

They are under a lot of pressure at the moment. There's even more online shopping than ever happening this year, and so many of them have been ill, they really are under a lot of pressure to keep things going. The queue at my local post office was really long yesterday with people sending last-minute parcels. I hope they all arrive on time. Anyone leaving it to the very last minute is going to be disappointed, I think.

inlectorecumbit · 15/12/2020 16:36

We have a wonderful Hermes delivery Royal Mail service dreadful Ordered online from Boots on 24th November, left warehouse on 25th November and received by Royal mail that day...- used tracking and hadn't arrived by 3rd December l contacted Boots and they kindly resent the items. Again using tracking l was told it would arrive no later than 11th Decembernope!! I got a message to then say it would be delivered yesterday--nope apparently still in Wales.
Truely disgusted.. and DH works for them Sad

EternalOptimist7 · 15/12/2020 16:40

Great post OP! With all the online shopping it must be crazy so a big thank you to our posties. The only complaint I have is that one of ours always delivers our mail next door!

2bazookas · 15/12/2020 16:40

For anyone sheltering, who wants to avoid crowds and queues at the post office.

Royal Mail will now collect parcels you're sending, from your address on a day to suit you. You pay online. There's a service charge per parcel, it's only 72 pence. We've sent all our Xmas parcels that way, it works perfectly and you can still track and trace.
What a fantastic service.

nosswith · 15/12/2020 16:40

Appreciate the individuals such as your own postman or woman, criticise the management of Royal Mail for not recruiting enough Christmas casuals.

MatildaTheCat · 15/12/2020 16:42

I posted a parcel yesterday afternoon in the far NW of England and it arrived this morning in the far SW. most impressive though I did use priority service having heard about the terrible delays.

But. I sent a small parcel to a nearby European country on 25th Nov and it’s yet to be received. That was Signed For. Not sure who to blame for that.

muckypaws · 15/12/2020 16:43

Totally agree, OP - our postie isn't especially cheerful or smiley, but he's been there every day delivering our stuff efficiently and carefully. Absolutely love him!

GreenGordon · 15/12/2020 16:43

👏🏼 I’m in Scotland. Thank you to Royal Mail, Hermes, Dpd, all doing a sterling job here.

NoYouBloodyArent · 15/12/2020 16:48

Our postie is bloody lovely, but I have stuff posted out to me weeks ago that hasn't turned up yet.. I'm worried.

CertainGecko · 15/12/2020 16:49

Depends where in the NE. I have family in the Ashington sorting office area and they've gone to the wall with deliveries. Seems they have a lot of staff off sick, which is understandable, but sounds poorly mismanaged or misfunded.

However, there have also been multiple problems over the years with post going missing, and cards being opened, vouchers removed, and sellotaped back down. No complaints amount to anything. A friend posted a bunch of birthday cards in a plain brown envelope and it still got opened and pilfered.

listsandbudgets · 15/12/2020 17:01

I think the post people themselves are working hard trying to get it out...

But sorry no big shout out here... far from it. Yesterday I finally received a letter sent on the 20th November. Until late last week we were getting one maybe two deliveries a week though they've suddenly increased over the last few days. Our post seems to take a minimum of a week to ten days to turn up from the time its posted unless its actually sent 24/ 48 hour delivery.

On the other hand, it is turning up eventually and it is improving so I can give a sort of muffled murmur of increasing appreciation - maybe this time next week it will be a shout out if they carry on improving as they seem to be :)

Pipandmum · 15/12/2020 17:04

Postie fine and the staff at the postofgice seem ok if a little dour. But £1.64 for a regular card to USA!
