Perfect gift.

inappropriate? Why? Sounds fab, an she'll love it. Your mum is maybe showing her old-fashioned values (you know, toys for boys vs toys for girls).

MrsTittleMouse · 23/10/2007 07:02

Ooo! I hope someone buys DD a train set when she's 2.

tigermoth · 23/10/2007 07:56

everyone thought we were stupid buying our ds a big train set (150 piece set on a stunning table!!) for his 1st birthday.....we we're 5mths pregnant with our second child and knew money would be tighter the following xmas/birthday as we'd then have 2 little ones....we weren't bothered if he couldn't play with it properly until his second birthday or whatever, but from 18mths i dont think there is a day goes by that he doesn't play with it.....he spends hours a day making tracks and allsorts with it!! at nearly 3 he loves it more than ever, and it takes pride of place in our dining room!!!

i think its fantastic that you are able to buy this for her!!!

My dds loved the Brio, and liked to watch Thomas the Tank Engine although both also into dolls etc as well.

Why discuss this with your mother? It's between you and niece and maybe her parents.

edam · 23/10/2007 20:47

Ooh, do please buy her the train set! I soooo wanted a Brio set when I was little and never got one. Ds now has a million pieces of Brio that keep us both very happy. And I'd have bought them if he'd been a dd, too.

IdrisTheDragon · 23/10/2007 20:49

How would it be inappropriate?

pollywollydooooooooodle · 23/10/2007 21:44

dd has had hers since she was about 2 and at nearly 4 still plays with it loads..it's a great prezzie (only downside is tripping over it if it gets to be a huge layout!)

Southeastastra

My DD 10 wants a Hornby! Not sure if it's a passing whim just yet though. Was thinking of getting her a virtual railway first.
